THE TRACK A RIGHT-HANDED OVAL CIRCUIT ALMOST A MILE AND A QUARTER IN EXTENT, WHICH JOINS THE STRAIGHT FIVE FURLONGS COURSE HALF-A-MILE FROM HOME. THE BENDS ARE SHARP, PUTTING BIG, LONG-STRIDING TYPES AT A SLIGHT DISADVANTAGE.
TODAY’S FEATURE TURE RACE A 0-90 -90 handicap for fillies' is today's feature race which sees the Ed W Walker-trained Mubhijah head the betting and she looks a worthy favourite. Knocking on the door afte after 3 second place efforts, she finally picked up her long-awaited success at Carlisle after a 6 length demolition dem job dropped back down to sevenn furlongs. Nick Bradley has two in the race in Glorious Angel aand Mersea, but the preference is for the former in the second colours who has been drooped another 1lb by the handicapper. Charlie Johnston saddles Kitai who is also well fancied in thee market but will have to defy weight. Jim Goldie reaches for the cheekpeices on Rock Melody who is alsoo an each-way pplayer.
JOCKEYS TO WATCH H PAUL MULRENNAN looks to claim yet another prize for being the lleading jockey here and has roe 5 winners from his last 30 rides, with some big price winners alongg the way. He rid rides in 6 of today's races and should pick up a success along with way. JOE FANNING NG has been a jockey to foll follow in recent times and comes here with only two rides on today's seven race card. He is operating at a 21% st strike rate and must be watched with a keen eye. There are 5 jockey's currently tied for second place in the Ed Edinburgh Gin Championships of which JASON HART is one of them and he hass a solid book of rides to try and a clinch second place.
TRAINERS TO WATCH IAIN JARDINE has flown away with the Edinburgh Gin Trainers Championship, already saddling 12 winners at Musselburgh. Once again, he brings a strong hand here and has a chance in all seven races and at least one success looks likely. ED WALKER doesn't often send many runners here but that must mean he is fairy confident on his chance in the feature race with Mubhijah, with P J McDonald coming up to ride his sole representative. CHARLIE JOHNSTON has a lot of firepower in his card and is operating at a 15% strike rate and he has continued to keep his horses very busy, this late on in the season.
RACE DESCRIPTIONS 2:05 THE VISIT RACINGTV.COM AMATEUR JOCKEYS' HANDICAP STAKES Today's opener is a one mile and one furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 49 to 68 and is to be ridden by amateur jockeys' only. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.
2:35 THE 100% RACING TV PROFITS BACK TO RACING SELLING STAKES Selling Stakes exist as an outlet for connections to sell their horses. Any horse that wins a seller, such as this one mile and four and a half furlongs contest for three-year-old to five-year-olds, is automatically put up for public auction in the Winners’ Enclosure at the end of the race and goes to the highest bidder. Make sure to head that way after the race as the auction is usually well worth seeing!
3:05 THE BET IN RUNNING ON RACING AT BETVICTOR HANDICAP STAKES This is a five furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 56 to 75. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 75 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 70.
3:35 THE RACING TV HANDICAP STAKES This is a one mile and two furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 60. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating, this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb.
4:10 THE BRITISH EBF RUBY ANNIVERSARY SCOTTISH PREMIER FILLIES' HANDICAP STAKES This is a seven furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 71 to 90. Like most handicaps on the Flat, this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.
4:40 THE BET ON THIS RACE IN RUNNING WITH BETVICTOR HANDICAP STAKES The penultimate race is a two miles handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 58. Like all handicaps on today’s card this means that should a horse rated 55 take part they would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 50.
5:10 THE WATCH ON RACING TV HANDICAP STAKES Our finale is a five furlongs handicap race has been designed for three-year-olds and upwards which are rated between 46 and 55. However, horses officially rated in excess of 55 are also eligible to take part. The conditions of this race stipulate that the maximum weight to be carried by a horse rated 55 would be 9st 9lb, so should a horse rated 57 be entered to run, they would be asked to carry 2lb more than the top weight – 9st 11lb.

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: Selected to win the race. Good chance of being placed. By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims. Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. Can be given little or no chance.

1. In the Betting Ring, in front of the Grandstand, with a racecourse ‘bookie’. This is great fun as you can shop around for the bookmaker offering the biggest odds on your selection. 2. With totepool at one of their designated betting points all around the racecourse. 3. At the totesport betting shop in the Links Pavilion, which is identical to a high street betting shop. 4. At the totesport club office, if you are a member of the totesport club.

HORSE CARE AT MUSSELBURGH
At every race meeting at Musselburgh there are three specially qualified equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of thee cours course and can attend a casualty in the same responsee time as the Medical edical Teams responsible for the welfare of the Jockeys. ys. The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is keptt on all horses, especiall especially those returning after a race. It is now standard rd practice for screens to be b erected around any horse receiving veterinaryy attention on the ground. This does not reflect on the severity of an injury, but allows the vet some s privacy and the horse the opportunity, in a calm environment, vironment, to mak make a recovery. Please do not assume the worst if youu see screens erect erected around a fallen horse.

ATM Cash Machines are located adjacent to the Bistro Bar Glass Door & Main Tote Windows. Only £20 notes and multiples thereof are dispensed. There is a £2 transaction fee charged.

Cloakroom facilities are available in the tunnel underneath the grandstand. The cloakroom closes 30 minutes after the last race. If lost property has not been claimed 30 days following the race meeting, items will be donated to charity.
