This will be the three-year-olds fifth run of 2023 and he is looking for his second win of the term.

Another jockey to keep an eye on is BILLY GARRITTY, who has had seven winners at a 28% rate for the s past two weeks. He rides Cheese And Wine in the 2.30 and Vindobala in the 3.40 d Vin
JIM GOLDIE will be aiming to keep himself as the top course trainer He saddles Braes Of Doune, Yaaser and Cuban Rock KARL BURKE will be aiming to cut the gap to Goldie in the leading course trainer table He has two chances to do so in the form of Lochaber and Indication Spirit. This race is a one mile and four furlongs classified stakes for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 50 Unlike in a handicap when a horses rating reflects the weight that they will carry, the weights in this type of race are decided solely on the basis of age or sex This means that the higher rated horses should, theoretically, hold an advantage, as they are not forced to concede weight to lower rated rival
This seven furlongs contest for three-years-old and upwards is another maiden stakes - a race for horses that have yet to record a racecourse victory. There are a variety of reasons why the older horses in this race could still be maidens Stoutly bred horses are unlikely to be seen at their best over the shorter distances of their juvenile season whilst a setback or injury can curtail even the most precociously bred horse’s two-year-old career
This is a seven furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 56 to 75 In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.
A nursery is a handicap that is restricted to two-year-olds only In order to be allowed to take part, entrants must have already run in three maiden or novice races, or have won two races, which then qualifies them for an official handicap rating based on what they have achieved so far. Quite simply, the higher their rating, the bigger the weight they have to carry. This particular five furlongs race is for horses which have been rated from 0 to 70
This is a five furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 56 to 75 To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap In simple terms a horse rated 75 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 70
This is a one mile and one furlong handicap race for three-year-olds only which have been rated from 46 to 60 Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty
usually 6lb.

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: Selected to win the race
Good chance of being placed.
By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
Unlikely to win but not totally without hope
Can be given little or no chance
1.
Many people select a horse based on it’s name or jockey colours or go to the Parade Ring to view the horses Alternatively you may wish to follow a particular jockey or trainer, or a tipster in a newspaper Others like to look at the horse’s previous races or ‘form’.
1. In the Betting Ring, in front of the Grandstand, with a racecourse ‘bookie’. This is great fun as you can shop around for the bookmaker offering the biggest odds on your selection.
2. With totepool at one of their designated betting points all around the racecourse
3. At the totesport betting shop in the Links Pavilion, which is identical to a high street betting shop
4. At the totesport club office, if you are a member of the totesport club.
Decide how much you want to stake, and what type of bet you would like to place Then Cheer your selection home! There are a few simple rules that you need to follow after placing your bet.
- Please check your receipt. Mistakes cannot be rectified after a race is off
- Keep your bet receipt safe You will need this to collect your winnings
- Don’t throw away your ticket until the racecourse announcer says ‘Weighed In’.
- Even if your horse has not won, the result may be changed if there is a ‘Stewards Enquiry’. GOOD LUCK!

This is a competitive nursery. INDICATION SPIRIT should have more to come on the back of her C&D maiden success and gets the nod. At every race meeting at Musselburgh there are three specially qualified equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Medical Teams responsible for the welfare of the Jockeys. The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race. It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receiving veterinary attention on the ground This does not reflect on the severity of an injury, but allows the vet s privacy and the horse the opportunity, in a calm environment, to mak a recovery Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erect around a fallen horse.
