Leading course trainer this season KEITH DALGLIESH has come back firing at this early stage of the season and he has a few solid chances to extend his lead at the top of theEdinburgh Gin championship He saddles three today with Lady Lade (3.00), Gometra Ginty (3.30) and Breguet Boy (5.05). MICHAEL DODS will be hoping to find some success at York next week where he often finds success but will be looking for conquer here first. He saddles five runners today, with two chances at success in the Musselburgh Supporting Racing Welfare #mentalhealthawarnessweek Handicap Stakes with Azaim and Rockonmecca.

2:00 THE BRITISH EBF NOVICE STAKES (GBB RACE)

This five furlongs Novice Stakes is restricted to two-year-olds but in order to take part all of the runners must meet certain conditions Unlike a maiden, which is restricted to horses yet to record a victory, winning horses which have run in a maximum of six races are eligible to run. Weights are set according to sex before previous winners are allocated penalties depending on the level at which they have been successful.

2:30 THE MUSSELBURGH SUPPORTING RACING WELFARE #MENTALHEALTHAWARNESSWEEK HANDICAP STAKES

This is a seven furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds which have been rated from 46 to 55 In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

3:00 THE JOIN RACING TV NOW HANDICAP STAKES

This is a five furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 61 to 80 Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty

usually 6lb.

3:30 THE 100% RACING TV PROFITS BACK TO RACING HANDICAP STAKES

This is a seven furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 56 to 75 To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap In simple terms a horse rated 75 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 70

4:00 THE RACING TV HANDICAP STAKES

This is a two miles handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 60 Like most handicaps on the Flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.

This is a one mile and one furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 60 Like all handicaps on today’s card this means that should a horse rated 60 take part they would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 55

5:05 THE BET AT RACINGTV.COM HANDICAP STAKES (DIV II)

Some races can often prove very popular with owners and trainers and as a result more horses are declared to run than the official safety limit allows for. To avoid horses being denied a run which is obviously disappointing for connections, the British Horseracing Authority has allowed the previous race to be split into two divisions, with each contest carrying identical race conditions

5:40 THE WATCH ON RACING TV HANDICAP STAKES

Our finale is a five furlongs handicap race has been designed for three-year-olds only which are rated between 46 and 60 However, horses officially rated in excess of 60 are also eligible to take part The conditions of this race stipulate that the maximum weight to be carried by a horse rated 60 would be 9st 9lb, so should a horse rated 62 be entered to run, they would be asked to carry 2lb more than the top weight – 9st 11lb

HORSE CARE AT MUSSELBURGH

At every race meeting at Musselburgh there are three specially qualified equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action

During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Medical Teams responsible for the welfare of the Jockeys. The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race. It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receiving veterinary attention on the ground This does not reflect on the severity of an injury, but allows the vet some privacy and the horse the opportunity, in a calm environment, to mak a recovery Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erec around a fallen horse.

ATM

ATM Cash Machines are located adjacent to the Bistro Bar Glass Door & Main Tote Windows. Only £20 notes and multiples thereof are dispensed. There is a £2 transaction fee charged.

CLOAKROOM

Cloakroom facilities are available in the tunnel underneath the grandstand. The cloakroom closes 30 minutes after the last race. If lost property has not been claimed 30 days following the race meeting, items will be donated to charity.

Two viewing ramps for guests in wheelchairs only are situated in front of the main Grandstand We have disabled access toilets in the Harris Tweed Bistro, Rockavon Bar, Pinkie Bar & the Links Pavilion Entrance

The suggested meeting point is outside the Weighing Room.

Please note that for security purposes there will be CCTV monitoring throughout the racecourse today.

The Code of Conduct is a shared responsibility between the racecourse and you, the racegoer, regarding behaviour whilst on-course The Code of Conduct is an important part of our ability to reopen and welcome significant numbers of spectators so it is vital that you familiarise yourself with it in advance. A copy can be found on our website and will be provided with your purchase confirmation.

MONDAY 15TH MAY

The nearest train station to Musselburgh Racecourse is Wallyford on the Edinburgh Waverley to North Berwick train line On racedays we organise a courtesy bus from Wallyford and Newcraighall train stations to the Racecourse, returning after racing.

WALLYFORD STATION RETURNS

The bus to Wallyford Train Station will depart from the racecourse side (north) of Linkfield Road at the corner of Millhill The bus to Wallyford will depart at 16:25 & 17:25 to coincide with departures to Edinburgh at 16:44 & 17:49 and departures to North Berwick at 16:53 & 17:57.

NEWCRAIGHALL TRAIN STATION RETURNS

The bus to Newcraighall Train Station will depart from the racecourse side (north) of Linkfield Road at the corner of Millhill at 16:25 & 17:25 to coincide with departures to Tweedbank at 17:27 & 18:30.

ScotRail trains may be subject to short notice alterations on Monday 15th May. Please check before you start your journey as alterations will be made on the day.
