Four head to post in what looks a competitive affair, albeit just the four runners, competit with the course and distance winner Hold Onto The Line heading the betting after a winning chasing bow heading back in November. OLIVER GREENALL & JOSH GUERRIERO have been flying recently and are operating at a 26% strike rate over the last 14 days. Despite none of their three entered horses are well fancied, it is hard to not take a second look with their yard doing little wrong. DONALD McCAIN has a 22% strike rate here over the last five years and his runners are always expected to give a bold showing. He has just the sole representative in Cartonne in the feature which can’t be overlooked LUCINDA RUSSELL brings five strong contenders to the table and Cuban Cigar looks a danger in the 3.55pm contest, while SAM ENGLAND also sends over three which could have a chance
1:50 THE BET AT RACINGTV.COM JUVENILE MAIDEN HURDLE RACE
(GO NORTH GREY BOMBER SERIES QUALIFIER) (GBB RACE)
This Juvenile race is designed formaiden four-year-olds in order to allow the younger horses to gain valuable experience by racing against each other before taking on their older, more battle-hardened rivals Initially, every runner in this one mile and seven and a half furlongs hurdle race is allotted 11st (fillies 10st 7lb) which should make it a competitive affair
2:20 THE WATCH ON RACING TV NOVICES’ HANDICAP CHASE (GBB RACE)
This is a two miles and four and a half furlongs handicap steeple chase for five-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 120. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 60 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 170.
2:50 THE JOIN RACING TV NOW HANDICAP CHASE (GO NORTH MONET’S GARDEN SERIES QUALIFIER)
This is another two miles and four and a half furlongs handicap steeple chase for five-year-olds and upwards. However, this individuals are rated from 0 to 100. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have won a race, been placed twice or raced at least three times in order for the handicapper to gauge the level of form shown. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap In simple terms a horse rated 95 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 90
3:25 THE EVERY RACE LIVE ON RACING TV MARES’ HANDICAP HURDLE RACE
(GO NORTH LADY BUTTONS SERIES FINAL QUALIFIER)
This is a two miles and four furlongs handicap hurdle race for four-year-olds and upwards fillies/mares which have been rated from 0 to 110. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed A below par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 7lb
3:55 THE VISIT RACINGTV.COM HANDICAP HURDLE RACE
(GO NORTH SEA PIGEON SERIES QUALIFIER)
This one mile, seven and a half furlongs handicap hurdle race has been designed for four-year-olds and upwards which are rated from 0 to 115. In most National Hunt handicaps, there is a minimum weight of 10st so any horse whose official rating would allocate them less than that still has to shoulder that burden. The horses that fall into this category are said to be racing from ‘out of the handicap’ – usually a distinct disadvantage.
The penultimate race this afternoon is a three miles handicap steeple chase for five-year-old and upwards which have been officially rated 0-105. As is all handicaps on this afternoon’s card the weight that each runner carries is determined by their official handicap rating. In this instance, a horse rated 100 would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 95
A Hunter Chase gives the regulars of the Point-to-Pointing world a chance to shine under National Hunt rules. A horse is only qualified for this type of event if it holds a Hunters’ Certificate, something provided by a Master of Hounds to prove that the horse has been regularly hunted throughout the season This particular event is for fiveyear-olds and upwards, and is to be run over three miles. All Hunter Chases are restricted to amateur jockeys.

At every race meeting at Musselburgh there are three specially qualified equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action
During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Medical Teams responsible for the welfare of the Jockeys. The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race. It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receiving veterinary attention on the ground This does not reflect on the severity of an injury, but allows the vet some privacy and the horse the opportunity, in a calm environment, to mak a recovery Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erec around a fallen horse.
