Jennifer Reoch is a Scottish Television and Radio presenter and is best known for being on Heart Radio Drivetime weekdays across Scotland and has been on your screens on BBC 1 for The One Show, BBC travel show ‘Getaways’, ITV’s ‘This Morning’ and STV on shows such as ‘Live at Five’, ‘Edinburgh Festival 2018’ and the ‘Scottish Children’s Lottery’. After graduating with a Law and French degree in 2011 she went on to spend a year as Miss Scotland which allowed her to travel and take part in some incredible challenges including climbing Kilimanjaro and running the London Marathon; as well as going on to proudly represent Scotland on the international stage at Miss World placing 7th.

THE TRACK A RIGHT-HANDED OVAL CIRCUIT ALMOST A MILE AND A QUARTER IN EXTENT, WHICH JOINS THE STRAIGHT FIVE FURLONGS COURSE HALF-A-MILE FROM HOME. THE BENDS ARE SHARP, PUTTING BIG, LONG-STRIDING TYPES AT A SLIGHT DISADVANTAGE.

TODAY’S FEATURE TURE RACE

Today's day's feature race is the So Stobo Platinum Jubilee Handicap Stakes. A highly competitive class 3 handicap which see sees DARK JEDI come out clear of the ratings atings but must concede a lot of weight to the rest of his rivals. GLASSESS UP quickly reopposes after a poor display at Ayr over shorter, but this longer trip should bring him back to his best. HAPPY went down ﬁghting by just a neck in a class 4 handicap at Sandown but was denied ied at odds-on and this looks tougher assignment. Unfortunately for connections, HAIRZOOM looks in the handicappers grasp still with an unchanged mark of 79. Both SIR CH CHAUVELIN and RAVENSCRAIG CASTLE marks both continue to decline, while bottom m weight EXCELCIUS also rrepresenets the Iain Jardine stable.

JOCKEYS TO WATCH H A rider ﬁrmly on the up is amateur JONNY PEATE, who's 5lb cclaim can be used to great effect again. He has two rides across the card, with Iron Sherifff looking the stronger stro of the two, when teaming up with Rogel Fell. JASON HART seems to have leading claims of bagging a winner too. He rides Happy, Brazen Bolt and Well Planted who will all appreciate an exper experienced jockey doing the steering. PAUL MULRENNAN leads the way by three in the Jockey's champion championship here and he can extend further clear with his excellent knowledgee of how to ride winners on this th track.

TRAINERS TO WATCH Still leading the way in the Trainers Championship, KEITH DALGLEISH again sends a strong hand here and could pull further clear. He has an excellent chance of landing both the opener and final race on today's card, with two strong representative in both fields. JAMES TATE sends just a sole runner on the day and New Definition looks one of the stronger fancies on the day and should be able to secure win number two for connections. IAIN JARDINE often does well here and has a few strong candidates, including course and distance winner Smart Lass and bottom weight Merricourt who still looks well treated.

RACE DESCRIPTIONS 1.40 THE CHAMPAGNE POMMERY ROSE MAGNUM HANDICAP STAKES Our opener this afternoon is a one mile, 208-yard handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards who are still maidens. This race is a one mile and two furlongs maiden stakes for three-year-olds and upwards. Maiden races provide a starting point for young horses that are yet to record a victory and most will be very lightly raced or be making their racecourse debuts. Previous experience can count for a lot when searching for the winner but wellbred or precocious juveniles are more than capable of landing the prize at the ﬁrst time of asking.

2.10 THE BRITISH STALLION STUDS EBF CONDITIONS STAKES (GBB RACE) This race is a five furlongs conditions stakes for two-year-olds. The runners in this type of race are subject to specific conditions that often revolve around age or sex, or confine the race to horses that have yet to win above a particular level.

2.40 THE SO STOBO PLATINUM JUBILEE HANDICAP STAKES This is a one mile and six furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 76 to 95. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their ofﬁcial handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

3.10 THE MADELEINE CUP HANDICAP STAKES This is a ﬁve furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 51 to 70. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 65 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 60.

3.40 THE GAYNOR WINYARD HANDICAP STAKES This is a seven furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 61 to 80. Once a horse has qualiﬁed for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb.

4.10 THE MCEWAN FRASER HANDICAP STAKES This is a seven furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 55. Like most handicaps on the ﬂat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.

4.40 THE CHAMPAGNE POMMERY CUVEE LOUISE HANDICAP STAKES This is a one mile and four and a half furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 51 to 70. Like all handicaps on today’s card this means that should a horse rated 70 take part they would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 65.

SHUTTLE E BUS

Our shuttlee buses run every 10 minutess to and from the Racecourse se car park up until un the secondd race and they restart restar after the fourth th race. The bus stop is located on thee corner of Millhill Millhi and Balcarres Place lace

At every race meeting at Musselburgh there are three specially qualiﬁed equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of thee cours course and can attend a casualty in the same responsee time as the Medical Meedical Teams responsible for the welfare of the Jockeys. ys. The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is keptt on all horses, especially those returning after a race. It is now standard rd practice for screens to be b erected around any horse receiving veterinaryy attention on the ground. This does not reﬂect on the severity of an injury, but allows the vet some privacy and the horse the opportunity, in a calm environment, vironment, to mak make a recovery. Please do not assume the worst if youu see screens erec erected around a fallen horse.

ATM Cash Machines are located adjacent to the Bistro Bar Glass Door & Main Tote Windows. Only £20 notes and multiples thereof are dispensed. There is a £2 transaction fee charged.

CLOAKROOM

Cloakroom facilities are available in the tunnel underneath the grandstand. The cloakroom closes 30 minutes after the last race. If lost property has not been claimed 30 days following the race meeting, items will be donated to charity.

FRIDAY 5TH AUGUST The nearest train station to Musselburgh Racecourse is Wallyford on the Edinburgh Waverley to North Berwick train line. On racedays we organise a courtesy bus from Wallyford and Newcraighall train stations to the Racecourse, returning after racing.

WALLYFORD STATION RETURNS The bus to Wallyford will depart from the racecourse side (north) of Linkﬁeld Road at Entrance 5/Woodside Gate continuously between 16:30 to 19:25 to coincide with departures to Edinburgh and North Berwick.

NEWCRAIGHALL TRAIN STATION RETURNS Newcraighall Train Station Returns bus will depart from the south side of Linkﬁeld Road at the corner of Millhill. Buses to Newcraighall will depart at 17:25, 18:25 & 19:25 to coincide with departures to Tweedbank at 17:54, 18:53 & 19.54. Please refer to Scotrail.co.uk for the most up to date train times for your journey. Please note that the times may be changeable and it is best to check 24 hours before travelling.
