THE TRACK A RIGHT-HANDED OVAL CIRCUIT ALMOST A MILE AND A QUARTER IN EXTENT, WHICH JOINS THE STRAIGHT FIVE FURLONGS COURSE HALF-A-MILE FROM HOME. THE BENDS ARE SHARP, PUTTING BIG, LONG-STRIDING TYPES AT A SLIGHT DISADVANTAGE.
TODAY’S FEATURE TURE RACE
Today's day's feature race is the Donaldson Timber Engineering Handicap. To Top weight Sunday Sovreign will be aiming to bounce back after his outing at Epsom last month. The five-yea five-year-old gelding steps back in class and could be a danger in this field. Silky Wilkie has been in consistent form this season with two wins and two seconds nds to his name in six runs. The latest of those was a success at Hamilton H earlier this month and trainer Karl arl Burke will be hoping to make it back-to-back wins. Ollie Pears runs ru Ready Freddie Go, who heads here off the back of a relatively comfortable success last time out. That wa was the four-year-old's second win of the season. Call Me Ginger also present an obvious us danger, having won at a Ascot in a class 2 event last time out.
JOCKEYS TO WATCH H OISIN ORR heads here in good form, with the jockey currently tly ooperating at a 20% strike rate for the past 14 days. He is booked for two rides, which are Zarina na Grande in the Bernard Hunter 75th Anniversary Classified Stakes and Show Me Show Me inn the Donaldson Timber Engineering En Handicap. PAUL MULRENNAN is thee top jockey here this year with eight winners winner and has three more rides today. He's on board One Lat Hug, Call Me Ginger and Global Humour. Ano Another jockey to have enjoyed success here this year is Andrew Mullen who ho has ridden five winners an and has three more rides today.
TRAINERS TO WATCH KEITH DALGLEISH is the top course trainer here this year, having had seven winners and he sends another five runners here today, including The Thin Blue Line in the feature race. JIM GOLDIE is battling it out for top course trainer this year, having also had seven winners to his name so far. Goldie also sends five runners here and he'll be hoping Call Me Ginger can take the feature race. Another trainer to keep an eye on is Karl Burke, who is operating at a 17% strike rate for the past two weeks and he sends just the two runners here in the form of Georgiava and Miss Brazen.
RACE DESCRIPTIONS 6.10 THE JOIN RACING TV NOW AMATEUR JOCKEYS' HANDICAP (CLASS 6) This is a one mile and five furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 65. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.
6.45 THE BERNARD HUNTER MOBILE CRANES NURSERY HANDICAP (CLASS 6) This is a five furlongs handicap race for two-year-olds only which have been rated from 0 to 65. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb.
7.20 THE IRISH STALLIONS FARMS EBF RESTRICTED NOVICE STAKES (CLASS 5) (FOR HORSES IN BAND D) (EBF RESTRICTED RACE QUALIFIER) (GBB RACE) This five furlongs Novice Stakes is restricted to two-year-olds but in order to take part all of the runners must meet certain conditions. Unlike a maiden, which is restricted to horses yet to record a victory, winning horses which have run in a maximum of six races are eligible to run. Weights are set according to sex before previous winners are allocated penalties depending on the level at which they have been successful.
7.50 THE BERNARD HUNTER 75TH ANNIVERSARY CLASSIFIED STAKES (CLASS 6) This race is a seven furlongs classified stakes for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 50. Unlike in a handicap when a horses rating reflects the weight that they will carry, the weights in this type of race are decided solely on the basis of age or sex. This means that the higher rated horses should, theoretically, hold an advantage, as they are not forced to concede weight to lower rated rival.
8.20 THE DONALDSON TIMBER ENGINEERING HANDICAP (CLASS 3) This is a five furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 76 to 95. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.
8.50 THE CAL CLARK HANDICAP (CLASS 6) This is a five furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 65.

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED
Eaach horse has beeen given a star ratingg, these are defined beloow: ‘‘‘‘‘ Selectedd to win the race. ‘‘‘‘• Good chancce of being placed. ‘‘‘•• By no means ouut of the reeckoning but at least one or two hold stronger cllaims. ‘‘••• Unlikely to win butt not totally without hope. ‘•••• Can be given little or no chance.
PLACING A BET HAVING A FLUTTER IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE FUN OF COMING RACING. 1. PICK YOUR WINNER!
Many people select a horse based on it’s name or jockey colours or go to the Parade Ring to view the horses. Alternatively you may wish to follow a particular jockey or trainer, or a tipster in a newspaper. Others like to look at the horse’s previous races or ‘form’.
2. WHERE TO PLACE YOUR BET
1. In the Betting Ring, in front of the Grandstand, with a racecourse ‘bookie’. This is great fun as you can shop around for the bookmaker offering the biggest odds on your selection. 2. With totepool at one of their designated betting points all around the racecourse. 3. At the totesport betting shop in the Links Pavilion, which is identical to a high street betting shop. 4. At the totesport club office, if you are a member of the totesport club.
3. PLACE YOUR BET.
Decide how much you want to stake, and what type of bet you would like to place. Then Cheer your selection home! There are a few simple rules that you need to follow after placing your bet. - Please check your receipt. Mistakes cannot be rectified after a race is off. - Keep your bet receipt safe. You will need this to collect your winnings. - Don’t throw away your ticket until the racecourse announcer says ‘Weighed In’. - Even if your horse has not won, the result may be changed if there is a ‘Stewards Enquiry’. GOOD LUCK!

GRACES QUEST might be up to landing the third win of a productive campaign. Chief Craftsman took a step back in the right direction at Beverley last time and is well treated if able to build on that, while Point of Honour has a poor strike-rate but did shape quite nicely on his recent Catterick reappearance.

HOWYADOIN looks the way to go here given he can race off a 2lb lower mark than when runner-up at Southwell and should find this fast 5f in his favour too. C&D second Georgiava is feared most now she steps into handicap company for the first time, with Don’t Fight It weighted to have a say too if shrugging off a modest latest effort at Hamilton.

MISS BRAZEN has to concede weight all round but is still fancied to bag her third win given she travelled strongly when scoring at Thirsk a week ago and gives the impression there is better still to come.
