On Wednesday we will again be celebrating Racing with Pride, which is the official LGBT+ network for British Horseracing. Racing with Pride aims to create a friendly and fun community of LGBT+ individuals and allies who enjoy racing and are passionate about it being an accepting and welcoming sport for everyone. Some of our races on Wednesday will be used to help raise awareness of this message and we will again see the colourful PRIDE colours being worn by jockeys in some of our races. TRAINERS TO WATCH Leading Musselburgh trainer KEITH DALGLEISH always holds strong claims around here and today is no different. The trio of I'm To Blame, Ninky Nonk and Mi Capricho are his chances of the evening and he could pull further away in the leaderboards. CHARLIE & MARK JOHNSTON send just a sole representitive here, in the opener, which surely gives leading claims to Kind Spirit who looks to battle it out with the TIM EASTERBY-trained Impulsive Reaction. Tim also saddles Rhakri in the second who could go well in the first-time cheekpeice.
RACE DESCRIPTIONS 6.00 THE BRITISH STALLION STUDS EBF RESTRICTED MAIDEN STAKES (FOR HORSES IN BAND D) (EBF RESTRICTED RACE QUALIFIER) (GBB RACE) This race is a seven furlongs maiden stakes for two-year-olds. Maiden races provide a starting point for young horses that are yet to record a victory and most will be very lightly-raced or be making their racecourse debuts. Previous experience can count for a lot when searching for the winner but well-bred or precocious juveniles are more than capable of landing the prize at the first time of asking.
6.30 THE GEORGE MACDONALD HANDICAP STAKES This is a one mile handicap race for three-year-olds which have been rated from 46 to 55. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.
7.00 THE RACINGTV.COM/FREETRIAL HANDICAP STAKES This is a two miles handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 65. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 65 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 60.
7.30 THE MUSSELBURGH RACECOURSE CELEBRATES PRIDE 2022 HANDICAP STAKES This is a five furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 51 to 70. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb.
8.00 THE RACING TV FREE FOR A MONTH HANDICAP STAKES This is a five furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds which have been rated from 46 to 60. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.
8.30 THE TRY RACING TV FOR FREE NOW HANDICAP STAKES This is a seven furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 65. Like all handicaps on today’s card this means that should a horse rated 55 take part they would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 50.
9.00 THE START YOUR RACINGTV FREE TRIAL NOW HANDICAP STAKES Our final race is a one mile handicap race has been designed for four-year-olds and upwards which are rated between 56 and 75. However, horses officially rated in excess of 75 are also eligible to take part. The conditions of this race stipulate that the maximum weight to be carried by a horse rated 75 would be 9st 9lb, so should a horse rated 77 be entered to run, they would be asked to carry 2lb more than the top weight – 9st 11lb.

At every race meeting at Musselburgh there are three specially qualified equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of thee cours course and can attend a casualty in the same responsee time as the Medical Meedical Teams responsible for the welfare of the Jockeys. ys. The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is keptt on all horses, especially those returning after a race. It is now standard rd practice for screens to be b erected around any horse receiving veterinaryy attention on the ground. This does not reflect on the severity of an injury, but allows the vet some privacy and the horse the opportunity, in a calm environment, vironment, to mak make a recovery. Please do not assume the worst if youu see screens erec erected around a fallen horse.

MONDAY 27TH JUNE The nearest train station to Musselburgh Racecourse is Wallyford on the Edinburgh Waverley to North Berwick train line. On racedays we organise a courtesy bus from Wallyford and Newcraighall train stations to the Racecourse, returning after racing.
WALLYFORD STATION RETURNS The bus to Wallyford will depart at 20:20 to coincide with departure to Edinburgh at 20.38 and unfortunately there will be no return to coincide with North Berwick departures due to there being no trains at this time. The 124 East Coast Bus runs to North Berwick for those travelling that way.
NEWCRAIGHALL TRAIN STATION RETURNS Newcraighall Train Station Returns bus will depart from the south side of Linkfield Road at the corner of Millhill. The bus to Newcraighall will depart at 21:15 to coincide with departure to Tweedbank at 21:54. Please refer to Scotrail.co.uk for the most up to date train times for your journey.
