WELCOME TO MUSSELBURGH Welcome to Musselburgh Racecourse for The Inch’s Cider Scottish Sprint Cup Raceday. We are thrilled to be racing over The Platinum Jubilee Weekend and have lots of exciting activities in-store including some fantastic top-quality racing. Her Majesty the Queen has always been a loyal supporter of British Racing and we are honoured that we have been able to welcome her to Musselburgh in the past. Her Majesty attended our Bi-Centenary celebrations in 2016 and she gave us permission to name one of our races after her, The Queen’s Cup which is held on Easter Saturday. We would like to thank Her Majesty for her continued support of racing. Today the feature race is The Scottish Sprint Cup, the fastest race in Scotland and is run over 5 furlongs. The course record is currently held by Caspian Prince who won the race in a time of 56.77s back in 2018. I hope you enjoy what promises to be a thrilling day of racing here at Musselburgh Races. Fifteen runners go to post, and it looks a wide-open looking race. ace. ONLY SPOOFING and ANCIENT TIMES are likely to be at the th front of the market, with the former looking ng to make it back-to-back wins. Sean Davis gets the leg up and he h will be looking to take advantage of some ome lenient handicapping. Paul Midgley enlists the help of the very useful us claimer Ryan Sexton, who is riding BURNING CASH. Paul has an excellent record with his sprinters, so m make sure to keep tabs on his other two runners GLORY FIGHTER and INDIAN SOUNDS, DS, who are owned by the th same connections.

JOCKEYS TO WATCH H PAUL MULRENNAN currently leads the way in our jockey’ss championship ch and once again he looks to have an exciting book of rides. Northbound will be looking to take aadvantage of a reduced handicap mark while Makanah should go well in our feature. DAVID ALLAN ride rides York specialist Copper Knight in the 3:21 and so far this season ason has 15 winners to his name, he'll be hop hoping to add a few more to that tally before the day is done. RYAN SEXTON is in high demand at the minu minute and will be taking off 5lb on two occasions today. Grandads Best Girlrl has struggled to get her he head in front, but today could be the day.

TRAINERS TO WATCH KEITH DALGLEISH and JIM GOLDIE are battling out the top spot in the trainer’s championship and it will be interesting to see if either takes the lead once the day is done. JIM GOLDIE sends ﬁve to the track today and he looks to have a few lively chances. Be Proud is his representative in our feature while Bobby Shaftoe will be looking to give him a winner in the 4:41. Rival trainer KEITH DALGLEISH also sends ﬁve to the track on Saturday and he will be looking to get his day off to a good start with Alpine Sierra. Taxmeifyoucan could give him a winner in the last as well. Whatever happens it looks set to be a fascinating day.

RACE DESCRIPTIONS 1.36 THE INCHS CIDER HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) This is a one mile and TWO furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds which have been rated from 51 to 70. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their ofﬁcial handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

2.11 THE INCHS CIDER SELLING STAKES (CLASS 2) Selling Stakes exist as an outlet for connections to sell their horses. Any horse that wins a seller, such as this ﬁve furlongs contest, is automatically put up for public auction in the Winners’ Enclosure at the end of the race and goes to the highest bidder, so make sure to head that way after the race as the auction is usually well worth seeing. This particular seller is for two-year-olds.

2.46 THE HEINEKEN SILVER HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 3) Like most handicaps on the ﬂat, this seven furlongs handicap for three-year-olds rated between 71 and 90 is also open to horses which are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is usually a disadvantage

3.21 THE INCHS CIDER SCOTTISH SPRINT CUP HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 2) The feature race of the day is a Class Two handicap, the aim is to ensure a level playing ﬁeld for all and this is achieved by allocating different weights to each of the runners based on what they have achieved on the racecourse so far. Each runner is given a rating usually ranging from around 30 at the lower end of the scale to roughly 130 for the Derby winner. This particular ﬁve furlongs handicap has been designed for four-year-olds and upwards rated between 0 and 105.

4.01 THE HEINEKEN SILVER APPRENTICE HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) Like most handicaps on the ﬂat, this ﬁve furlong handicap for four-year-olds and upwards rated between 46 and 55 is also open to horses which are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is usually a disadvantage.

4.41 THE OLD MOUT BERRIES AND CHERRIES 0% HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) Once a horse has raced three times, or won a race, the ofﬁcial handicapper will allocate a rating based on its past performance/s and this dictates the weight which they will carry in a handicap. This particular seven furlongs handicap has been designed for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated between 46 and 60. Therefore, a horse ofﬁcially rated 65 would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 60.

5.11 THE AMSTEL HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) The ﬁnale this afternoon is a one mile six furlongs handicap for four-year-olds which have been ofﬁcially rated between 51 and 70. Like all handicaps on this afternoon’s card this means that should a horse rated 70 take part, he or she would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 65.

MAKANAH has returned as good as ever this year, denied only narrowly in a big-ﬁeld York handicap last month, and he can go one better with a strong pace back at 5f to suit. HORSE CARE AT MUSSELBURGH

SHUTTLE E BUS

Our shuttlee buses run every 10 minutess to and from the Racecourse se car park up until un the secondd race and they restart resta after the fourth th race. The bus stop is located on thee corner of Millhill Millhi and Balcarres Place ace

At every race meeting at Musselburgh there are three specially qualiﬁed equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of thee cours course and can attend a casualty in the same responsee time as the Medical Meedical Teams responsible for the welfare of the Jockeys. ys. The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is keptt on all horses, especially those returning after a race. It is now standard rd practice for screens to be b erected around any horse receiving veterinaryy attention on the ground. This does not reﬂect on the severity of an injury, but allows the vet some privacy and the horse the opportunity, in a calm environment, vironment, to mak make a recovery. Please do not assume the worst if youu see screens erec erected around a fallen horse.

ATM

ATM Cash Machines are located adjacent to the Bistro Bar Glass Door & Main Tote Windows. Only £20 notes and multiples thereof are dispensed. There is a £2 transaction fee charged.

CLOAKROOM

Cloakroom facilities are available in the tunnel underneath the grandstand. The cloakroom closes 30 minutes after the last race. If lost property has not been claimed 30 days following the race meeting, items will be donated to charity.

FACILITIES FOR GUESTS IN WHEELCHAIRS

Two viewing ramps for guests in wheelchairs only are situated in front of the main Grandstand. We have disabled access toilets in the Old Weighing Room Bistro, Rockavon Bar, Pinkie Bar & the Links Pavilion Entrance.

TRAVEL INFORMATION

SATURDAY 4TH JUNE The nearest train station to Musselburgh Racecourse is Wallyford on the Edinburgh Waverley to North Berwick train line. On racedays we organise a courtesy bus from Wallyford and Newcraighall train stations to the Racecourse, returning after racing.

WALLYFORD STATION RETURNS Buses will depart from the racecourse side (north) of Linkﬁeld Road at the corner of Millhill continually between 16:25 and 19:30.

NEWCRAIGHALL TRAIN STATION RETURNS Newcraighall Train Station Returns bus will depart from the south side of Linkﬁeld Road at the corner of Millhill. Buses to Newcraighall will depart 17:00 / 18:00 / 19:15 to coincide with departure to Tweedbank at 17:28 / 18:27 / 19:54. Please note there is a half hourly train service during this period but our Courtesy bus will only operate hourly. Please refer to Scotrail.co.uk for the most up to date train times for your journey. Please note that the times may be changeable and it is best to check 24 hours before travelling.
