THE TRACK A RIGHT-HANDED OVAL CIRCUIT ALMOST A MILE AND A QUARTER IN EXTENT, WHICH JOINS THE STRAIGHT FIVE FURLONGS COURSE HALF-A-MILE FROM HOME. THE BENDS ARE SHARP, PUTTING BIG, LONG-STRIDING TYPES AT A SLIGHT DISADVANTAGE.
TODAY’S FEATURE TURE RACE
Ourr feature race today is the opener, the Join Racing TV Now Handicap run over ov five furlongs for horses aged fouryears-old ld and upwards. Six runners go to post, with the top weighted THE TH THIN BLUE LINE likely to be at the top end of the market. arket. Ridden by Callum Rodriguez and trained by Keith Dalgleish, the son of Mehmas has been very busy over the Winter period on the all-weather. A consistent performer, he won his h last start when sent off favourite over course ourse and distance. This earnt him a 5lb rise by the handicapper and now he will have to throw up a career best to win again. Tim Easterby's ALBEGONE looks the obvious danger for a shrew shrewd trainer and may just be open to a little more improvement after his win at Ayr in April.
JOCKEYS TO WATCH H ANDREW MULLEN has got off to a fine start this season and leads lead the jockey’s championship by two wins. Today he has four rides, including the newcomer Finn Russell, who will be b hoping to give trainer Ian Jardine his first two-year-old winner of the season. He also rides Rose Bandit in oour feature for the same trainer and the two will be hoping forr a profitable day. PAUL MULRENNAN also hhas a busy day, riding in five of our seven races. ANTWASAPRETTYPENNY is only 1lb higher than his last rrun where he was seen finishing third and another performance like that could ould see him in the Winners' Enclosure E at around 4:25.
TRAINERS TO WATCH KEITH DALGLEISH always sends a few nice ones to the track and today looks to be no different. Currently operating at a 18% strike rate, he sends a whole host of runners, including the last time out winner Ayr Empress. She looks set to return to try and make it two from two over course and distance and should hold every chance. The aptly named Fergie Time returns for his first run after a Gelding operation and he will be hoping for a change in fortunes after a poor two-year-old campaign. TIM EASTERBY will be looking to get his season up and running after a bit of a slow start.
RACE DESCRIPTIONS 1.45 THE RACING WELFARE SUPPORTING MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 5) This race is a five furlongs maiden stakes for two-year-olds. Maiden races provide a starting point for young horses that are yet to record a victory and most will be very lightly-raced or be making their racecourse debuts. Previous experience can count for a lot when searching for the winner but well-bred or precocious juveniles are more than capable of landing the prize at the first time of asking.
2.20 THE EVERY RACE LIVE ON RACING TV FILLIES' HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) This is a one mile and one furlong handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards fillies and mares which have been rated from 51 to 70. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.
2.50 THE WATCH ON RACING TV HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) This is a one mile, four and a half furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 65. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 65 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 60.
3.20 THE RACING WELFARE SUPPORTING MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) This is a seven furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 65. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb.
3.50 THE JOIN RACING TV NOW HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4) This is a five furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 61 to 80. Like all handicaps on today’s card this means that should a horse rated 80 take part they would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 75.
4.20 THE RACECOURSE LIVE STREAMS ON RACING TV EXTRA HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) This is a one mile handicap race for three-year-olds which have been rated from 46 to 55. Like all handicaps on today’s card this means that should a horse rated 55 take part they would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 50.
4.50 THE BET AT RACINGTV.COM MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 5) (GBB RACE) Our final race is a one mile contest for three-years-olds and upwards is another maiden stakes - a race for horses that have yet to record a racecourse victory. There are a variety of reasons why the older horses in this race could still be maidens. Stoutly bred horses are unlikely to be seen at their best over the shorter distances of their juvenile season whilst a setback or injury can curtail even the most precociously bred horse’s two-year-old career.

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED
Eaach horse has beeen given a star ratingg, these are defined beloow: ‘‘‘‘‘ Selectedd to win the race. ‘‘‘‘• Good chancce of being placed. ‘‘‘•• By no means ouut of the reeckoning but at least one or two hold stronger cllaims. ‘‘••• Unlikely to win butt not totally without hope. ‘•••• Can be given little or no chance.
PLACING A BET HAVING A FLUTTER IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE FUN OF COMING RACING. 1. PICK YOUR WINNER!
Many people select a horse based on it’s name or jockey colours or go to the Parade Ring to view the horses. Alternatively you may wish to follow a particular jockey or trainer, or a tipster in a newspaper. Others like to look at the horse’s previous races or ‘form’.
2. WHERE TO PLACE YOUR BET
1. In the Betting Ring, in front of the Grandstand, with a racecourse ‘bookie’. This is great fun as you can shop around for the bookmaker offering the biggest odds on your selection. 2. With totepool at one of their designated betting points all around the racecourse. 3. At the totesport betting shop in the Links Pavilion, which is identical to a high street betting shop. 4. At the totesport club office, if you are a member of the totesport club.
3. PLACE YOUR BET.
Decide how much you want to stake, and what type of bet you would like to place. Then Cheer your selection home! There are a few simple rules that you need to follow after placing your bet. - Please check your receipt. Mistakes cannot be rectified after a race is off. - Keep your bet receipt safe. You will need this to collect your winnings. - Don’t throw away your ticket until the racecourse announcer says ‘Weighed In’. - Even if your horse has not won, the result may be changed if there is a ‘Stewards Enquiry’. GOOD LUCK!

GRACES QUEST gained her sole career win over this C&D and looks to be coming to the boil judged on a keeping-on third back here 12 days ago. This isn’t a deep race so she gets the nod, with Boasty and Sun Festival a couple of potential threats.

ALBEGONE had a couple of today’s rivals in behind when making all at Ayr last time and might be able to defy the handicapper, particularly as there isn’t much obvious competition for the lead. Ready preference is for RUM GOING ON, who has improved since fitted with cheekpieces, opening his account in decisive fashion over 7f here last month prior to going close under a penalty at Wetherby. This new trip will, if anything, be a good thing. The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is keptt on all horses, especially those returning after a race.
