THE TRACK A RIGHT-HANDED OVAL CIRCUIT ALMOST A MILE AND A QUARTER IN EXTENT, WHICH JOINS THE STRAIGHT FIVE FURLONGS COURSE HALF-A-MILE FROM HOME. THE BENDS ARE SHARP, PUTTING BIG, LONG-STRIDING TYPES AT A SLIGHT DISADVANTAGE.

TODAY’S FEATURE TURE RACE

Ourr feature race today is the opener, the British EBF Restricted Maiden Stakes, which comprises of a five runner field. Iain Jardine dine has sent four runners here today and his first runner of the day is Best Checker with James Sullivan on board. Hee also has another runner in this opener in the form of Abbie Power, who heads here off the back of a fourth placedd finish at Catterick earlier this month. Declan Carroll will be hoping SSheikh Maz Mahood can get off to a fine start tart as the three-year-old is one of two runners the trainer has here this evening. David O'Meara will be hoping Hotter In Time can improve on her first outing last season with Shane Gray on board. Princess Karine completes the field for Bryan Smart. Graham lee is booked to rid ide.

JOCKEYS TO WATCH H DANIEL TUDHOPE always rides the track well and looks to have a solid book of rides today. He rides the Liam Bailey-trained How Bizarre in the 6:15 and Stroxxx in the 7:25. he is running at an 18% strike over the past 14 days inlcuding a double at Doncaster ter on Friday. Connor Beasle Beasley enjoyed a fine start to the week with a double at Thirsk on Monday. He has five rides today including M Mackenzie Pier, Fleetwood Pier and Khulu. Another jockey to watch is Andrew Mullin who is operating aat a 14% strike rate for the past wo weeks. He is booked for five rides including cluding Code Purple, The Glo Gloaming and Lightning Attack.

TRAINERS TO WATCH Charlie and Mark Johnston have had nine winners in the past 14 days and they have two runners here this evening and they come in the form of Mackenzie Rose and Wadacre Gogo. Ben Haslam is another trainer to keep an eye on, having had some recent success. His two runners for the meeting are Code Purple and Lightning Attack. Finally, Declan Caroll heads here with a 25% strike rate for the past two weeks and he sends two runners out this evening and they are Sheikh Maz Mahood in the opener and Ballycommon.

RACE DESCRIPTIONS 5.05 THE BRITISH EBF RESTRICTED MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 5) This ﬁve furlong contest is for horses aged three-years-old and upwards is another maiden stakes - a race for horses that have yet to record a racecourse victory. There are a variety of reasons why the older horses in this race could still be maidens. Stoutly bred horses are unlikely to be seen at their best over the shorter distances of their juvenile season whilst a setback or injury can curtail even the most precociously bred horse’s two-year-old career.

5.40 THE JOIN RACING TV HANDICAP (CLASS 6) This is a one mile and one furlong handicap race for three-year-olds only which have been rated from 46 to 65. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their ofﬁcial handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

WEDNESDAY 27TH APRIL 2022 The nearest train station to Musselburgh Racecourse is Wallyford on the Edinburgh Waverley to North Berwick train line. On racedays we organise a courtesy bus from Wallyford and Newcraighall train stations to the Racecourse, returning after racing.

WALLYFORD STATION RETURNS Buses will depart from the racecourse side (north) of Linkﬁeld Road at the corner of Millhill. Two buses will operate continually between 20:30 and 21:30.

NEWCRAIGHALL TRAIN STATION RETURNS Buses to Newcraighall will depart 20:30 and 21:30. Please note there is a half hourly train service during this period but our Courtesy bus will only operate hourly. Please refer to Scotrail.co.uk for the most up to date train times for your journey. Please note that the times may be changeable and it is best to check 24 hours before travelling.

At every race meeting at Musselburgh there are three specially qualiﬁed equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of thee cours course and can attend a casualty in the same responsee time as the Medical Meedical Teams responsible for the welfare of the Jockeys. ys. The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is keptt on all horses, especially those returning after a race. It is now standard rd practice for screens to be b erected around any horse receiving veterinaryy attention on the ground. This does not reﬂect on the severity of an injury, but allows the vet some privacy and the horse the opportunity, in a calm environment, vironment, to mak make a recovery. Please do not assume the worst if youu see screens erec erected around a fallen horse.

ATM Cash Machines are located adjacent to the Bistro Bar Glass Door & Main Tote Windows. Only £20 notes and multiples thereof are dispensed. There is a £2 transaction fee charged.

CLOAKROOM

Cloakroom facilities are available in the tunnel underneath the grandstand. The cloakroom closes 30 minutes after the last race. If lost property has not been claimed 30 days following the race meeting, items will be donated to charity.
