THE TRACK A RIGHT-HANDED OVAL CIRCUIT ALMOST A MILE AND A QUARTER IN EXTENT, WHICH JOINS THE STRAIGHT FIVE FURLONGS COURSE HALF-A-MILE FROM HOME. THE BENDS ARE SHARP, PUTTING BIG, LONG-STRIDING TYPES AT A SLIGHT DISADVANTAGE.

TODAY’S FEATURE RACE Today’s feature race is the Racing TV Bass Rockk Handicap. With £20,0 £20,000 in prize money on offer, this 7f handicap looks a wide open contest, ass the betting suggests. The T Micheal Dods-trained NORTHERN EXPRESS was the only winner last NO ast time out in the field, which w should give this 3-year-old ear-old a great chance of scoring again off just a 2lb higher mark. ma Jason Hart has been one to keepp a close eye of lately and he teams up with Roger Fell on the t course and distance winner MUNTA TADAB, a 4-time winner already thiss season. Other course and a distance winner HAYADH also makes akes some appeal for trainer Harvey Bastiman after his excellent excelle second in a class 2 handicap at Redcar last time out. Others in the field to note are the consiste consistent DANZAN and ZIP.

JOCKEYS TO WATCH CH BEN CURTIS has an excellent book of rides throughout ghout the day and has ha some exciting chances throughout the day for a number of different trainers. He teams up with Hugoo Pa Palmer in the second race on the card to ride Eastern Sheriff, which looks a phenominal opportunityy to oopen up what could be a very good day for the in-form rider. AMIE WAUGH has shown she has as what it takes to compete co with the very best this year and her 5lb claim could come in handyy today. She has 4 rides on the dday, including Tommy G in the third race who is interesting sting dropping down in class. With Sam James boo booked to ride at Wolverhampton, CALLUM RODRIGUEZ could go ahead in the Musselburgh jockey cham championship today.

TRAINERS TO WATCH

JIM GOLDIE declares 7 runners on today's card and he looks to have some brilliant chances to add a couple of successes to his already impressive tally, including Lord Of The Glen in the opener. SIMON & ED CRISFORD send just one runner over today with Roulston Scar. Due to them bringing this horse a long way from home, they must think he has an excellent chance of landing the Flyng Scotsman Condtions Stakes at 3.00pm, with P J McDonald riding. PAUL MIDGLEY could be another trainer to watch out for on today's action-packed card, as he has been operating at a 20% strike rate over the last 14 days. Like usual, leading ower here Keith Dalgleish must be feared with his strong army of horses once again as well.

RACE DESCRIPTIONS 1:20 THE HAPPY BIRTHDAY HERA HULL HANDICAP STAKES (DIV I) This is a five furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 55. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.

1:50 THE 100% RACING TV PROFITS BACK TO RACING SELLING STAKES Selling Stakes exist as an outlet for connections to sell their horses. Any horse that wins a seller, such as this one mile, four furlongs and 104 yards contest for three and four-year-olds, is automatically put up for public auction in the Winners’ Enclosure at the end of the race and goes to the highest bidder, so make sure to head that way after the race as the auction is usually well worth seeing.

2:25 THE NEW MR & MRS MCGARRITY HANDICAP STAKES This is a seven furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 61 to 75. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

3:00 THE BRITISH EBF FLYING SCOTSMAN CONDITIONS STAKES This race is a five furlongs conditions stakes for three-year-olds and upwards. The runners in this type of race are subject to specific conditions that often revolve around age or sex, or confine the race to horses that have yet to win above a particular level. In this instance, this race is restricted to those who are EBF eligible.

3:35 THE RACING TV PROFITS BACK TO RACING HANDICAP STAKES This is a five furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 61 to 80. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 80 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 75.

4:10 THE RACING TV BASS ROCK HANDICAP STAKES This is a seven furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 81 to 100. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb.

4:45 THE HAPPY BIRTHDAY HERA HULL HANDICAP STAKES (DIV II) Some races can often prove very popular with owners and trainers and as a result more horses are declared to run than the official safety limit allows for. To avoid horses being denied a run which is obviously disappointing for connections, the British Horseracing Authority has allowed the previous race to be split into two divisions, with each contest carrying identical race conditions.

5:20 THE VISIT RACING TV NOW HANDICAP STAKES Closing the card is a one mile and one furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 51 to 70. Like all handicaps on today’s card this means that should a horse rated 70 take part they would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 65.

PLACING A BET HAVING A FLUTTER IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE FUN OF COMING RACING. 1. PICK YOUR WINNER!

Many people select a horse based on it’s name or jockey colours or go to the Parade Ring to view the horses. Alternatively you may wish to follow a particular jockey or trainer, or a tipster in a newspaper. Others like to look at the horse’s previous races or ‘form’.

2. WHERE TO PLACE YOUR BET

1. In the Betting Ring, in front of the Grandstand, with a racecourse ‘bookie’. This is great fun as you can shop around for the bookmaker offering the biggest odds on your selection. 2. With totepool at one of their designated betting points all around the racecourse. 3. At the totesport betting shop in the Links Pavilion, which is identical to a high street betting shop. 4. At the totesport club office, if you are a member of the totesport club.

3. PLACE YOUR BET.

Decide how much you want to stake, and what type of bet you would like to place. Then Cheer your selection home! There are a few simple rules that you need to follow after placing your bet. - Please check your receipt. Mistakes cannot be rectified after a race is off. - Keep your bet receipt safe. You will need this to collect your winnings. - Don’t throw away your ticket until the racecourse announcer says ‘Weighed In’. - Even if your horse has not won, the result may be changed if there is a ‘Stewards Enquiry’. GOOD LUCK!

PLAY SMARTER

The ones at the top of the weights could be worth focusing on here, with QUANAH put forward as the answer. Liam Bailey’s charge took a step back in the right direction when fourth at Newcastle a fortnight ago and, back on the turf from an easing mark, he’s taken to strike. The Gloaming’s sole victory came over this C&D so she could provide the main threat, ahead of Fossos.

ALBEGONE is in a rich vein of from at present so Tim Easterby’s charge gets the vote to make it 3 wins from his last 4 starts. He was only narrowly denied in his bid to defy a double penalty at Redcar just under 3 weeks ago and looks sure to go close once again. Victory Angel was unlucky not to finish closer at Ripon last time so he’s feared most, ahead of James Watt.

PLAY SMARTER

A wide-open finale with the narrow vote in favour of AYR EMPRESS. One of 3 runners for Keith Dalgleish, she’s suggested her present mark is within reach of late and, with the fitting of a first-time visor potentially putting an extra edge on her, all looks set fair for another good showing. Stablemate Caballero is knocking on the door and is feared, along with Carey Street.
