THE TRACK A RIGHT-HANDED OVAL CIRCUIT ALMOST A MILE AND A QUARTER IN EXTENT, WHICH JOINS THE STRAIGHT FIVE FURLONGS COURSE HALF-A-MILE FROM HOME. THE BENDS ARE SHARP, PUTTING BIG, LONG-STRIDING TYPES AT A SLIGHT DISADVANTAGE.

TODAY’S FEATURE RACE Today’s feature race is the British EBF Scottish Premierr Fillies' Handicap Stakes. RRun over one mile two furlongs, just the ﬁve runners head down to post inn a race that should prove tto be a tactically run affair. PRETTY REBEL is the highest rated horse in the race for Gerard O'Leary and CConnor Beasley. Carrying top weight, ght, she has it all to do but Gerard doesn't send many over that don't have h a good chance. SEPARATE represents nts the Julie Camacho yard and Graham Lee takes the ride. In rece receipt of 5lb from the top weight she should ould go well despite not running her best on her last few starts. M MR FITZHERBERT was a last time out winner inner for Hughie Morrison and will be hoping to make it two out of tw two here.

JOCKEYS TO WATCH CH JASON HART could be the one to keep a closee eye on today. He's ppicked up a whole host of rides for the Karl Burke operation and should have a winner or two. Hee rrides the first string in our opener of the day who will be going up again stablemate Sophie'ss Star. He H also rides the last time out winner Gweedore for Katie Scott who looks to have a leading ding chance after winning w nicely last time at Ayr. SHANE GRAY rides the favourite in ourr five-furlong sprint for Kevin RRyan and only has one other ride in the first race so could uld be one to watch considering he's come all tthis way for only two rides!

TRAINERS TO WATCH

As previously mentioned, KARL BURKE has a few runners coming up to the track on Sunday and it could pay to be on the right side of them. With two in the ﬁrst it would be some shock for either of them not to win considering there are only four runners in the ﬁeld. He doesn't have a runner in the next, but KEITH DALGLEISH does have one and he currently sits top of the market. Clay Regazzoni was a last time out winner and KEITH is currently top of the jockey championship table. JIM GOLDIE has been having an excellent time of things as of late and his runner in our 4:15 will be hoping to add to that ever-growing list of winners. HUGHIE MORRISON also has a couple of runners on the card and will be hoping he can win the lucky last with VINO VICTRIX.

RACE DESCRIPTIONS 1:55 THE EBF ROSEBERY FILLIES' CONDITIONS STAKES (GBB RACE) Our Opener is a six furlongs Novice Stakes is restricted to two-year-olds ﬁllies and mares but in order to take part all of the runners must meet certain conditions. Unlike a maiden, which is restricted to horses yet to record a victory, winning horses which have run in a maximum of six races are eligible to run. Weights are set according to sex before previous winners are allocated penalties depending on the level at which they have been successful.

2:27 THE BET AT RACINGTV.COM HANDICAP STAKES The second race is a handicap for horses rated between 56 and 75. It is also run over a distance of one mile. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 75 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 70.

3:02 THE BRITISH EBF SCOTTISH PREMIER FILLIES' HANDICAP STAKES Like our ﬁrst race this too is restricted to ﬁlles and mares but instead this is a handicap for horses rated between 71 and 90. It is also run over a distance of one mile. 3:37 THE WATCH RACING TV NOW HANDICAP STAKES (GBB RACE) A race with identical races as our previous one but it's for both sexes. A handicap for horses rated between 71 and 90. It is also run over a distance of ﬁve furlongs. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 75 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 70.

4:15 THE THANK YOU DOUGLAS HANDICAP STAKES This is a ﬁve furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 65. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 60 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 55.

4:45 THE RACING TV PROFITS RETURNED TO RACING HANDICAP STAKES The penultimate race is one mile and six furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 55. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 55 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 50.

5:20 THE SKY BET MUSSELBURGH GOLD CUP HANDICAP STAKES Closing the card is another handicap contest, This is a two mile handicap race for three-year-olds which have been rated from 71 to 90. Like all other handicaps on today’s card this means that should a horse rated 60 take part they would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 55.

At every race meeting at Musselburgh there are three specially qualiﬁed equine vets appointed ointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. During a race two vets follow the action from the centree of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Medical Teams responsible for thee welfare of the Jockeys. Jockeys The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially cially those returning after a race. It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receivingg veterinary attention attentio on the ground. This does not reﬂect on the severity of an injury, but allows the vet some privacy acy and the horse the opportunity, in a calm environment, to make a recovery. Please do not assume the worstt if you see screens screen erected around a fallen horse.
