THE SYMPHONY GROUP RACEDAY SATURDAY 16 OCTOBER 2021 Official Racecard £3.00

THE JOCKEY CLUB WELCOMES YOU

A very warm welcome to Market Rasen for our Symphony Group Raceday, which features seven exciting races. A very warm welcome to Market Rasen for our Symphony Group Raceday, which features seven exciting races. The highlight on track is the Symphony Group Prelude Handicap Chase, a high-class race which is run over the same distance as our Summer Plate in July. As such, it is not uncommon to see horses who have won or run well in the Plate return here, as is the case today. Some progressive horses line up throughout the card, while the concluding Aquadi By Symphony 'Junior' National Hunt Flat Race is well worth a close examination, as it features a number of horses who have never run before and have the potential to be future stars. We give thanks to Symphony Group for sponsoring six of this afternoon's races and hope that they have a fantastic time here. We remember the lives of two great supporters of Market Rasen racecourse with our second race, the Horatio Vincent & Marjorie Beckett Memorial Maiden Hurdle. We are most grateful to Becketts for sponsoring this race. We are delighted to have Racing Welfare on course today promoting the start of Racing Staff Week, an initiative we are proud to support. It is down to the enormous passion, dedication and hard work of racing staff that our sport is made possible and this year’s Racing Staff Week will recognise the contribution of the industry’s entire workforce, from stud and stable staff to breeders, racecourse staff and administrators and everything in between. I wish all the horses and their connections the best of luck and hope that you all have a wonderful time with us here at Market Rasen.

Horatio Vincent Beckett (known by his friends as Joe) and Alice Marjorie Leaning (always known as Marjorie) were married in 1938 and set up home in Ashleigh, Kilnwell Road where they raised two daughters, Anne and Jill. Later four grandsons and six great grandchildren came along. They were foremost personalities of their generation in Market Rasen where they lived life to the full without humbug and served the community in many ways. HVB (known as Rache to his family) was educated at De Aston school and Hull University where he qualified as a solicitor. He practised in Market Rasen right up until his death. During the Second World War he was in charge of intelligence for the Home Guard in the area. In the post-war period he was chairman of the local council and helped to re-organise several clubs in the town including the racecourse. He was captain and later president of the Golf Course. He was President of the Working Men’s Club and a keen snooker player. He was chairman of the Cricket Club and on the management committee of the Trustees Savings Bank amongst many other activities including being instrumental to the appearance of Father Christmas in the market place every Christmas Eve! Marjorie also enjoyed this annual event as well as participating in the Nativity mime as a member of the St. Thomas’ church congregation where she enjoyed arranging the flowers. She was indeed a founder member of the Market Rasen Flower Club. Marjorie had been a teacher in Walesby school before her marriage and was often asked to give talks and reminisce about Market Rasen’s past and her involvement with local societies in which she rose to positions of responsibility through her work with the WRVS and the Guiding movement (particularly the Brownies). She was a keen member of the Conservation Society and the Market Rasen Society. She was a highly talented member of the Market Rasen Amateur Dramatic Society. Over many years she would be seen enjoying an afternoon at Market Rasen races!

Probable S.P’s: 5-2 Cilluirid (IRE), 4-1 Check My Pulse (IRE), 11-2 Begoodtoyourself (IRE), 15-2 Miraculous Getaway (IRE), 10-1 Tuff McCool (IRE), 14-1 Zamani (GER), 20-1 Rafferty (IRE), 28-1 Obey The Rules (IRE), 33-1 Charle Brune (FR)

PLAY SMARTER

It’s unlikely that a 7lb rise will be enough to prevent CILLUIRID from adding to his clear-cut Sedgefield success, providing he gets a strong pace to aim at over this shorter trip, which is a likely scenario with the free-going Rafferty in the line-up. Begoodtoyourself will be a threat if backing up his latest effort, while Check My Pulse and chase debutant Tuff McCool are others to consider.

TIMEFORM PREDICTION: 1.CILLUIRID (IRE) 2.BEGOODTOYOURSELF (IRE) 3.CHECK MY PULSE (IRE)
