Welcome to Ludlow Races for the Wye Valley Brewery Day.
It is great to be able to welcome Wye Valley Brewery back to Ludlow for their tenth visit here.
Many thanks also to our other sponsors today: The family of Vera Davies, Weatherbys and Weatherbys Hamilton, and Birthday Bonanza
It looks as if the weather will be perfect for the racegoers, but a touch challenging for the ground staff to ensure good ground Sadly, as a knock-on effect to the dry/warm weather we are experiencing small field sizes as trainers take the understandably cautious approach to the drying ground conditions. I am hoping that we can provide safe good going through having irrigated the track for the last few days and nights
Aintree kicks in on Thursday with the Grand National on Saturday. Likewise, they have been watering for well over two weeks at Aintree as the track prepares for the most watched race in the world.
We have two more meetings before we take a bow for the Summer break: April 23rd and our Sinclair Ladies Day on May 11th, not to be missed.
Best wishes,
Simon Sherwood

NOTE:
HOW TO BET WITH AN ON-COURSE BOOKMAKER
1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to offer the correct stake money for your wager.
2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet, name the horse, (the bookmaker won’t necessarily know it’s number). Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.
3. Should your horse happen to win, present your betting ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings.
4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, i.e. for a win or a place
5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise the racegoer as to his rights.
6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes. e.g.£1, £5 or £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

Race Summary:
French import MISTER CESSNA has been highly tried either side of his good C&D second to the promising Viyanni and this represents a golden opportunity for the 4-y-o to open his account on these shores. Bond Broker is the obvious danger in his bid to maintain his 100% record over hurdles but conceding 13lb to the selection will be no easy feat Point winner An Buachaill Rua is marginally preferred to Farhh Echo in the race for minor honours.

Though well held in three starts since returning from a break in November, TRAPISTA made a similarly inauspicious start to last season before returning to form during the spring. She is now 3lb lower than for her narrow C&D verdict over the re-opposing Regal Renaissance last May and gets the nod ahead of the in-form Sainte Doctor, who is also owned by JP McManus. Regal Renaissance usually gives her running and should also be in the mix.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
