WEDNESDAY 23RD APRIL

Welcome to Ludlow Races.

Ludlow Race Club Ltd

Registered Office:

Ludlow Racecourse

SY8 2BT

Tel: 01584 856221

Thanks to our sponsors today and I hope they all have a very good day and return for another day.

We are nearing the end of the season with just our Sunday meeting on, Ladies Day 11th May. Always a fun day with lots of activities and of course, hopefully some good racing, so please do come.

Off season we are hoping to modify the Weighing Room to provide a gender-neutral valets room and improved accommodation for the ladies. This will need to be completed by October 2025.

Hoping the ground will be on the soft side of good. The field sizes are better but again a bit disappointing bearing in mind the ground conditions.

Best wishes,

HOW TO BET WITH AN ON-COURSE BOOKMAKER

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to offer the correct stake money for your wager.

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet, name the horse, (the bookmaker won’t necessarily know it’s number). Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, i.e. for a win or a place

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise the racegoer as to his rights.

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes. e.g.£1, £5 or £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

MORE COKO: Following its run on 10/3/2025 it was reported that the horse made a mistake.

BRENDAS ASKING: Following its run on 13/3/2025 it was reported that the horse hung right-handed throughout. Betting Forecast:

10-11 More Coko (FR), 10-3 Brendas Asking (IRE), 4-1 Don’t Mind If I Do (IRE), 16-1 Star Artist (GB), 66-1 Jager Time (IRE), 200-1 Regal Cavalier (FR), 300-1 Silk Bird (GB)

Race Summary:

Preference is for BRENDAS ASKING, who has taken her form up a notch since opening her account over C&D back in October Back in much calmer waters, she can get the better of More Coko, who was turned over at 1/8 at Plumpton last month but remains capable of better with first-time headgear applied. Don’t Mind If I Do rounds off the shortlist provided he’s able to leave a lesser effort behind following a break.

Race Summary:

Plenty in with a squeak but the suggestion is DOCTOR MIDAS, who offered little on yard debut last time but had gone close in a C&D maiden the time before and could well build on that now sent down the handicap route. The main threat may emerge from The Bold Thady, who very much caught the eye and was the subject of a stewards inquiry at Ascot when last seen 5 months ago Swift Jet and Mikimoto can fight out third.

Race Summary: Handicap debutantes GAME ON BABE, Manala and Amberelli could be the ones to focus on, in that order of preference. The market should be revealing where that trio are concerned and Manala, who represents the title-chasing Dan Skelton yard, will likely attract plenty of support but Game On Babe shaped well on her second run over hurdles at Taunton and this fast-track into handicap company could pay dividends. Rockola could be the pick of the more established performers.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
