WELCOME Ludlow Race Club Ltd Registered Office: Ludlow Racecourse Bromfield Ludlow Shropshire SY8 2BT Tel: 01584 856221
Welcome to Ludlow Races for our Tanners Christmas Fixture. I must first of all thank our long-standing sponsors, James and Katie Tanner of Tanners Wines who have been our main sponsor for the Christmas Meeting for many years, we are most grateful for their continued support! Likewise, a big thank you to Ray Bailey of Alfa Aggregates who has been a very long supporter of Ludlow. Thanks also to Tony Rickards of G.C.Rickards who is always happy to sponsor and finally a big thanks to Shuker Build. Our Tanners Christmas Meeting is always a popular day, so it is good to see plenty of runners on some rain softened ground! We are very happy to have the Tanners Prosecco Amateur Ladies Race at Ludlow for the Lorna Brooke Memorial Trophy, and the trophy will be presented by Lorna’s mother Lady Susan Brooke. I have fond memories of watching Lorna ride in many races here at Ludlow. Lorna was a role model to lady jockeys and is very sadly missed, but will never be forgotten. I hope you all have a fun day’s racing, and we hope to welcome you back on Monday 5th January! Wishing you a safe and Happy Christmas. Best Regards Simon Sherwood (Managing Director/Clerk of the Course)

HOW TO BET WITH AN ON-COURSE BOOKMAKER 1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to offer the correct stake money for your wager. 2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet, name the horse, (the bookmaker won’t necessarily know it’s number). Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet. 3. Should your horse happen to win, present your betting ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings. 4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, i.e. for a win or a place. 5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise the racegoer as to his rights.
EACH WAY BETTING The RCA and the bookmaking association have agreed the following terms for all bookmakers offering each way betting on course. NON-HANDICAPS 5 - 7 runners; One quarter the odds 1,2 8+ runners; One fifth the odds 1,2,3 HANDICAPS 5 - 7 runners; One quarter the odds 1,2 8 - 11 runners; One fifth the odds 1,2,3 12 - 15 runners; One quarter the odds 1,2,3 16+ runners; One quarter the odds 1,2,3,4 All bookmakers must display on their boards whether they are betting each way or to win only.
6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes. e.g.£1, £5 or £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

FAIRWAY CAFE Sometimes, you just need a quick snack or perhaps you fancy a full English breakfast roll?! Whatever it is, the Fairway Cafe is sure to have it. This Cafe is situated at the side of the Windsor Marquee and is more of a low-key affair. There are no frills here, just good food and a fully stocked, licensed bar. You may just catch some of the grooms and trainers grabbing a bite here too...

Race Summary: ROCKINASTORM is yet to finish out of the first 2 over fences here, defying a 3lb lower mark when scoring over further last winter. He looked all set to run respectably prior to departing late in the piece on his return at Cheltenham PLAY SMARTER and it would come as no surprise to see him make a bold bid. VIEWING ON COURSE
Would all patrons please note that while any race is in progress no person is allowed on the course except Racecourse Ground Staff and First Aid Attendants. All other persons must stay behind the running rails. THIS INCLUDES OWNERS, TRAINERS, JOCKEYS, PRESS and PHOTOGRAPHERS.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
PUBLIC EVACUATION PROCEDURE PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
In the unlikely event that the racecourse buildings need to be evacuated please read the following information for your own safety. The Racecourse Management will only take such action if an emergency situation arises such as a FIRE or BOMB THREAT and all decisions taken will place public safety as a priority. If an evacuation is necessary the following announcement will be made over the PA system: “THIS IS A SECURITY MESSAGE. IT IS NECESSARY FOR ALL PERSONS TO LEAVE THE RACECOURSE BUILDINGS AND WALK TO THE GOLF COURSE IN THE CENTRE OF THE COURSE”. Unless otherwise instructed ALL members of the public will be evacuated to this area. There will be NO access to either the Annual Members or Owners & Trainers Car Parks. No vehicles will be allowed to leave the site until allowed by the Police so as to keep surrounding roads clear for Emergency vehicles. In the event that the evacuation is cancelled or it is safe for the public to return a further announcement will be made. At all times the Management and Staff will try and keep you informed.
