Many thanks to our sponsors this meeting, Winforton Investments Ltd, Flowfit Ltd and the Meadows family.
The Forbra Cup is one of Ludlow’s oldest races dating back many years with the presentation by the Parsonage family, but don’t miss the Gold Cup as it is amazing So valuable that we are only allowed to show it off for this presentation sadly.
Cheltenham Festival is just around the corner so make sure you come to our “Review with a Twist” on March 8th; tickets are available online to this event featuring Johnny Burke, Henry Daly, Sheila Lewis, Matt Shepherd and Tom Bellamy being hosted by Robert Bellamy.
Plus, get the Gold Cup vibe and come to the Gold Cup Lunch with big screen on March 14th in The Clive at the Racecourse. Tickets online - this was a big success last year.
Apologies that the ground is so messy at present, but we have had an extremely wet season, so the grass has suffered. Hopefully some warm weather soon to get things growing again
Best Wishes,
Simon Sherwood

NOTE:
HOW TO BET WITH AN ON-COURSE BOOKMAKER
1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to offer the correct stake money for your wager.
2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet, name the horse, (the bookmaker won’t necessarily know it’s number). Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.
3. Should your horse happen to win, present your betting ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings.
4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, i.e. for a win or a place
5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise the racegoer as to his rights.
6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes. e.g.£1, £5 or £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

Summary:
Having finished an eye-catching fourth in a stronger mares’ event at the beginning of February, GAYE LEGACY may be able to make the most of this drop in class. Despite being bred for the Flat, hat-trick seeking Komedy Kicks is progressing over hurdles, particularly since joining the Skelton operation, and she looks worth a crack at this longer trip Looking As You Are boasts a perfect record at this track and merits consideration in a trappy enough contest.

60 YEARS OF THE FORBRA GOLD CUP
Today sees the 60th actual running of the “FORBRA”.
Frost prevented the initial scheduled staging of the most celebrated event in LUDLOW’S calendar, so COTTAGE LACE, trained and ridden by Bob Turnell, became the inaugural FORBRA hero on March 1, 1956, as confirmed in the result reproduced below from the official CHASEFORM annual.
One of the “also rans” was EARLY MIST, who 3 years earlier had initiated an amazing Grand National hat-trick for trainer Vincent O’Brien in the famous Aintree event.
For the record, that 1956 runner-up Morrcator went on to win the FORBRA in both 1957 & 1958 for trainer George Owen and jockey Stan Mellor.
Across its history, there have been 11 abandonments caused by either frost, snow, waterlogging, or on one occasion (2001) FOOT & MOUTH.

• WHY? To mark his 80th birthday year in memorable fashion by raising funds to repay the “IJF” for their outstanding involvement in caring for his uncle, TIM HAMEY - winning jockey in both the 1926 Cheltenham Gold Cup & 1932 Grand National - in his twilight years.
• WHEN? Commenced at Fontwell Park on February 23 and concludes at York (August 20).
• WHERE? Race day visits to all 59 racecourses in England, Wales and Scotland, from Newton Abbot to Perth - “DOUBLE HEADERS” (attending two meetings) on 6 occasions.
WILL LEFEBVE is the nephew of TIM (“FORBRA”) HAMEY, and his DREAM one day last year has become REALITY as he sets out to visit all 59 English, Welsh & Scottish racecourse venues in under six months in aid of the INJURED JOCKEYS FUND, with a target of £59,000…..a “grand” for each track!
Today is stage 2 of Will’s round Britain racecourse romp, with all roads leading to YORK for the opening stage of the Ebor meeting on August 20, and a return to the city that was Will’s family home for 24 years prior
All horse racing fans, particularly of the jumping game, can help WILL reach his target in aid of a most worthy cause and his favourite charity, with a donation, however big or small, to his dedicated URL page: JustGiving.com/page/william-lefebve-1

HORSE WELFARE
“Racing’s top priority is the safety and welfare of horse and rider” At Ludlow Racecourse we are committed to minimising risks as far as possible. We aim to deal quickly and humanely with injured horses and to maintain the highest quality of veterinary care We have three Equine Veterinary Surgeons in attendance at all meetings who are responsible for the welfare of all horses in action One Veterinary Surgeon follows the race in the centre of the course and can attend a horse with the same response time as the Paramedic teams responsible for the jockeys. It is our policy to erect screens around any injured horse requiring Veterinary attention on the racecourse. This is designed to provide privacy for the Veterinary Surgeons, the patient and connections Please do not assume the worst.
LUDLOW CLUB ROOM
The Ludlow Club Room on the ground floor of the Plymouth Stand is for the Exclusive use of the holders of Ludlow Annual Members Metal Badges and Ludlow Annual Members Guest Badges only.
COURSE CROSSINGS
In the interests of Safety would members of the public please note that when the order “Jockey Mount” is given they must clear the course ready for the horses leaving the paddock and going to the start.
VIEWING ON COURSE
Would all patrons please note that while any race is in progress no person is allowed on the course except Racecourse Ground Staff and First Aid Attendants. All other persons must stay behind the running rails. THIS INCLUDES OWNERS, TRAINERS, JOCKEYS, PRESS and PHOTOGRAPHERS.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
