We would like to welcome Wye Valley Brewery for their continued support at Ludlow Racecourse. There will be upwards of 2000 Wye Valley Brewery visitors today which is great, and they are primarily based in the Windsor Marquee. We would also like to welcome ORJ Law Firm, the Newnes Family, and Whitehall Flagstone for their sponsorship and support.
We had over 160 entries at the 6-day stage so I am hopeful that we will have plenty of runners. This will have been driven by the trainers desperate to find better ground so I hope we can produce that. With dry, warm winds and a bit of sun, and the grass growing, it is amazing as to how conditions can change. After all the rain it will not surprise me if we have to do some light watering.
Don’t forget our Sunday Sinclair Land Rover Ladies Day on May 12th where we will have Trade Stands and live music straight after racing
Simon Sherwood (Managing Director/Clerk of the Course)A right-handed oval shaped course one and a half miles in circumference, with nine fences per circuit and a run-in of 450 yards. The hurdle course runs on the outside of the chase course and is slightly undulating

Race Summary:
GIULIETTA isn’t a stable star but she displayed improved form when third at Taunton a month ago and a repeat of that level may well suffice. She may have most to fear from handicap debutantes Ici La Reine and Of Course You Can.

We aim to deal quickly and humanely with injured horses and to maintain the highest quality of veterinary care We have three Equine Veterinary Surgeons in attendance at all meetings who are responsible for the welfare of all horses in action One Veterinary Surgeon follows the race in the centre of the course and can attend a horse with the same response time as the Paramedic teams responsible for the jockeys. It is our policy to erect screens around any injured horse requiring Veterinary attention on the racecourse. This is designed to provide privacy for the Veterinary Surgeons, the patient and connections Please do not assume the worst.
The Ludlow Club Room on the ground floor of the Plymouth Stand is for the Exclusive use of the holders of Ludlow Annual Members Metal Badges and Ludlow Annual Members Guest Badges only.
In the interests of Safety would members of the public please note that when the order “Jockey Mount” is given they must clear the course ready for the horses leaving the paddock and going to the start.
Would all patrons please note that while any race is in progress no person is allowed on the course except Racecourse Ground Staff and First Aid Attendants. All other persons must stay behind the running rails. THIS INCLUDES OWNERS, TRAINERS, JOCKEYS, PRESS and PHOTOGRAPHERS.
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
In the unlikely event that the racecourse buildings need to be evacuated please read the following information for your own safety. Unless otherwise instructed ALL members of the public will be evacuated to this area There will be NO access to either the Annual Members or Owners & Trainers Car Parks. No vehicles will be allowed to leave the site until allowed by the Police so as to keep surrounding roads clear for Emergency vehicles In the event that the evacuation is cancelled or it is safe for the public to return a further announcement will be made At all times the Management and Staff will try and keep you informed Thank you for your co-operation.
