WELCOME Ludlow Race Club Ltd Registered Office: Ludlow Racecourse Bromfield Ludlow Shropshire SY8 2BT Tel: 01584 856221
We welcome you here today to our ever-popular Tanners Christmas Race Meeting. We are grateful for the continued support from James and Kate Tanner of Tanners Wines who are once again today’s main sponsor. Likewise, to Ray Bailey of Alpha Aggregates for his ongoing support. Thanks must also go to G.C Rickards Ltd who are loyal supporters of Ludlow Racecourse. Our final sponsor for today is Shuker Build, and it’s great to have them onboard. This is our last meeting of 2023, and we have experienced the complete opposites with the weather. A very dry Autumn in 2022 which continued into 2023 meant endless irrigating, to an Autumn of 2023 where we have never had to even start up the irrigation system! Many thanks for all your support in 2023, and from me personally, a big thanks to all the office staff, ground staff and raceday staff for their hard work. We recently received a Gold Commendation from the RCA for our Customer Services and Cleanliness. Keep your eyes peeled for the Racing TV orange mic team who are offering spot prices for those adorning their best Christmas jumpers. We hope you have a very enjoyable and merry days racing. We wish you all a happy and healthy Christmas and New Year. We look forward to welcoming you back to our 2024 fixtures with our first meeting being Friday 5th January. Simon Sherwood (Managing Director/Clerk of the Course)

HOW TO BET WITH AN ON-COURSE BOOKMAKER 1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to offer the correct stake money for your wager. 2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet, name the horse, (the bookmaker won’t necessarily know it’s number). Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet. 3. Should your horse happen to win, present your betting ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings. 4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, i.e. for a win or a place. 5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise the racegoer as to his rights.
EACH WAY BETTING The RCA and the bookmaking association have agreed the following terms for all bookmakers offering each way betting on course. NON-HANDICAPS 5 - 7 runners; One quarter the odds 1,2 8+ runners; One fifth the odds 1,2,3 HANDICAPS 5 - 7 runners; One quarter the odds 1,2 8 - 11 runners; One fifth the odds 1,2,3 12 - 15 runners; One quarter the odds 1,2,3 16+ runners; One quarter the odds 1,2,3,4 All bookmakers must display on their boards whether they are betting each way or to win only.
6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes. e.g.£1, £5 or £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

FAIRWAY CAFE Sometimes, you just need a quick snack or perhaps you fancy a full English breakfast roll?! Whatever it is, the Fairway Cafe is sure to have it. This Cafe is situated at the side of the Windsor Marquee and is more of a low-key affair. There are no frills here, just good food and a fully stocked, licensed bar. You may just catch some of the grooms and trainers grabbing a bite here too...

Williams Trainer: Mel Rowley, Bridgnorth Breeder: Parkville Stud TIMEFORM VIEW Progressive chaser who scored over C&D in March and followed up in good style at Kempton (3m) in May. McManus Trainer: Philip Hobbs & Johnson White, Minehead Breeder: Simon Walford TIMEFORM VIEW Landed 3m veterans’ chase at Exeter in February and back on track with a good comeback run at Wincanton, helped by a better round of jumping than he often manages. R. Hanbury TIMEFORM VIEW Held his form well last season, winning at Cheltenham (25f) in October and having an excuse when pulled up on his final outing (bled). Shaping well before an unfortunate unseat on return at Aintree but not in same form at Warwick 4 weeks ago. Still, he can’t be dismissed from easing mark. This trip is probably at the limit of his stamina. Largely progressive over fences, he shaped much better than the bare result on return to action at Cheltenham 32 days ago and the balance of his form in the PLAY SMARTER spring suggests his present mark remains exploitable. VIEWING ON COURSE
Would all patrons please note that while any race is in progress no person is allowed on the course except Racecourse Ground Staff and First Aid Attendants. All other persons must stay behind the running rails. THIS INCLUDES OWNERS, TRAINERS, JOCKEYS, PRESS and PHOTOGRAPHERS.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
PUBLIC EVACUATION PROCEDURE PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
In the unlikely event that the racecourse buildings need to be evacuated please read the following information for your own safety. The Racecourse Management will only take such action if an emergency situation arises such as a FIRE or BOMB THREAT and all decisions taken will place public safety as a priority. If an evacuation is necessary the following announcement will be made over the PA system: “THIS IS A SECURITY MESSAGE. IT IS NECESSARY FOR ALL PERSONS TO LEAVE THE RACECOURSE BUILDINGS AND WALK TO THE GOLF COURSE IN THE CENTRE OF THE COURSE”. Unless otherwise instructed ALL members of the public will be evacuated to this area. There will be NO access to either the Annual Members or Owners & Trainers Car Parks. No vehicles will be allowed to leave the site until allowed by the Police so as to keep surrounding roads clear for Emergency vehicles. In the event that the evacuation is cancelled or it is safe for the public to return a further announcement will be made. At all times the Management and Staff will try and keep you informed.
