WELCOME Ludlow Race Club Ltd Registered Office: Ludlow Racecourse Bromfield Ludlow Shropshire SY8 2BT Tel: 01584 856221
Welcome to Ludlow Racecourse and I hope you have a very enjoyable day. I would like to thank Flowfit and Marsh Commercial for being our sponsors today. It is also Racing TV Club day, they are based in the Windsor Marquee. A bit cooler this week as temperatures have dropped to zero in the evenings. The polar opposite to the warm wet weather we have all been experiencing this, Autumn. Please do fill in the “Affordability “link which asks the Government to look again at the White Paper on Betting Affordability. We all agree that certain tightening up of betting protocols need to be implemented especially with the online gambling on phones, but with the present format in place, the affect to the sport will be catastrophic. It already is having a major impact on what courses can afford to give to prize money. This impact then filters through the whole racing industry. Hope today goes well and look forward to seeing you in December. Simon Sherwood (Managing Director/Clerk of the Course)

HOW TO BET WITH AN ON-COURSE BOOKMAKER 1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to offer the correct stake money for your wager. 2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet, name the horse, (the bookmaker won’t necessarily know it’s number). Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet. 3. Should your horse happen to win, present your betting ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings. 4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, i.e. for a win or a place. 5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise the racegoer as to his rights.
EACH WAY BETTING The RCA and the bookmaking association have agreed the following terms for all bookmakers offering each way betting on course. NON-HANDICAPS 5 - 7 runners; One quarter the odds 1,2 8+ runners; One fifth the odds 1,2,3 HANDICAPS 5 - 7 runners; One quarter the odds 1,2 8 - 11 runners; One fifth the odds 1,2,3 12 - 15 runners; One quarter the odds 1,2,3 16+ runners; One quarter the odds 1,2,3,4 All bookmakers must display on their boards whether they are betting each way or to win only.
6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes. e.g.£1, £5 or £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

Race Summary: DESQUE DE L’ISLE needs to bounce back having ended last season on a low-key note and was safely held when returning from 8 months off at Huntingdon. Conversely, it’s worth noting that he failed to fire on his reappearance last season before PLAY SMARTER scoring twice over this C&D (including this corresponding race) and, now 3lb lower than for the second of those two wins, the 10-y-o is worth chancing. The others are all closely matched, with Feel The Pinch and Stormin Crossgales feared most. TIMEFORM PREDICTION: 1.DESQUE DE L’ISLE (FR) 2.FEEL THE PINCH 3.STORMIN CROSSGALES (IRE)

VIEWING ON COURSE
Would all patrons please note that while any race is in progress no person is allowed on the course except Racecourse Ground Staff and First Aid Attendants. All other persons must stay behind the running rails. THIS INCLUDES OWNERS, TRAINERS, JOCKEYS, PRESS and PHOTOGRAPHERS.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
PUBLIC EVACUATION PROCEDURE PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
In the unlikely event that the racecourse buildings need to be evacuated please read the following information for your own safety. The Racecourse Management will only take such action if an emergency situation arises such as a FIRE or BOMB THREAT and all decisions taken will place public safety as a priority. If an evacuation is necessary the following announcement will be made over the PA system: “THIS IS A SECURITY MESSAGE. IT IS NECESSARY FOR ALL PERSONS TO LEAVE THE RACECOURSE BUILDINGS AND WALK TO THE GOLF COURSE IN THE CENTRE OF THE COURSE”. Unless otherwise instructed ALL members of the public will be evacuated to this area. There will be NO access to either the Annual Members or Owners & Trainers Car Parks. No vehicles will be allowed to leave the site until allowed by the Police so as to keep surrounding roads clear for Emergency vehicles. In the event that the evacuation is cancelled or it is safe for the public to return a further announcement will be made. At all times the Management and Staff will try and keep you informed. Thank you for your co-operation.
