HOW TO BET WITH AN ON-COURSE BOOKMAKER
1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to offer the correct stake money for your wager.
2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet, name the horse, (the bookmaker won’t necessarily know it’s number). Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.
3. Should your horse happen to win, present your betting ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings
4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, i.e. for a win or a place
5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise the racegoer as to his rights.
6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes. e.g.£1, £5 or £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.
HOW TO READ THE RACECARD

Race two on today’s seven-race card – the Weatherbys nhstallions. co.uk Mares’ Handicap Chase – is one of two races sponsored by Weatherbys, with the 0-120 contest attracting a field of six.
All six are novices and four of them clashed, over the same courseand-distance, just 32 days ago, with La Renommee coming out on top. Dr Richard Newland’s five-year-old appeared to win a shade cosily, so despite meeting the placed horses on worse terms, the daughter of Doctor Dino might well be up to confirming the form. The ground will be much softer on this occasion, but it shouldn’t be too much of an issue and conditions are more likely to prove inconvenient to the third home from a month ago, Cotton End, who appreciates quicker conditions.
Runner-up Fortunes Melody boasts plenty of experience and is consistent, whilst the fifth home, Volkovka, made a shuddering error down the far side, so can be expected to get closer for the in-form Fergal O’Brien stable.
Walk In Clover is another who has shown her best form on a sounder surface, whilst Ingeborg Zilling completes the line-up, but would appear to be the Sheila Lewis second-string and races from a long way out of the handicap
Later on the card, the weatherbysshop.co.uk Handicap Hurdle is another class 5, 0-120 contest, in which eight go to post, with the weights headed by the Jonjo O’Neill-trained Judicial Law. A courseand-distance winner on soft ground in February of last year, the sixyear-old showed a fine attitude and is now only 2lbs higher.
Regal Renaissance is the other course-and-distance winner in the field, with Henry Daly’s mare the fortune winner of a female jockeys’ race just before Christmas. She has had wind surgery since then and Alice Stevens retains the partnership However, her pedigree would suggest that better ground might suit ideally.
Emma Lavelle’s Hardy Fella remains a maiden over hurdles, but ran well against Outlaw Peter last time and the winner won a Kempton handicap recently, whilst Heros is another who arrives in Shropshire on the back of a sound second placing. Venetia Williams’ six-yearold had earlier finished runner-up over this course-and-distance and boasts form on softer ground from his days in France. He looks to be improving, whilst the 10-year-old Stonific was a long way behind Heros last time, so needs to show significant improvement.
Norley and Prince de Juilley are another pair who have better form on decent ground, whilst the field is completed by Thruthelookinglass, who represents a resurgent Kim Bailey stable. Very lightly-raced, he could be open to considerable improvement and ran well on bad ground earlier in the season. On the back of a 139-day break, the son of Kayf Tara is very much one to note in the market.

Race Summary:
A few of these come with question marks against them so this looks an excellent opportunity for DILIGENT to build on his recent Wincanton hunter chase second and open his account for his current yard Former-winner Zamparelli could emerge as the chief threat if back on song, with Fix At All also not discounted if backing up his recent C&D success

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
PUBLIC EVACUATION PROCEDURE PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
In the unlikely event that the racecourse buildings need to be evacuated please read the following information for your own safety. The Racecourse Management will only take such action if an emergency situation arises such as a FIRE or BOMB THREAT and all decisions taken will place public safety as a priority. If an evacuation is necessary the following announcement will be made over the PA system:

Unless otherwise instructed ALL members of the public will be evacuated to this area There will be NO access to either the Annual Members or Owners & Trainers Car Parks.
