WYE VALLEY BREWERY DAY
THURSDAY 2ND MARCH 2023
OFFICIAL PROGRAMME & FORM GUIDE
www.ludlowracecourse.co.uk | | | |
Welcome to Ludlow Racecourse.
Its Forbra Gold Cup Day and Wye Valley Brewery Day. The Forbra Cup sponsored by Flowfit tends to be a small but competitive race often throwing up a progressive horse and the race dates back for over 60 years. The Forbra Cup is a magnificent trophy. Make sure you see it.
We are thrilled to welcome Wye Valley Brewery again, who will primarily be based in the Windsor Marquee. We welcome an extra 2000 racegoers who are all connected to the Wye Valley Brewery. I hope they have a most enjoyable days racing as it is always great to welcome racegoers who seldom get to come to Ludlow and experience the race day here.
Finally, we wish George Rickards a Happy Birthday whose father Tony is a regular sponsor
We have the Charity Meeting on March 23rd. First Race 2.25pm and for those going to Cheltenham Festival I hope we are able to cheer in lots of British trained winners! The Irish team look very strong again.
For your notebook, on the Sunday 14th May meeting we will be having music after the last race A local band with bars/food available.
Best Wishes,
Simon Sherwood (Managing Director/Clerk of the Course).

HOW TO BET WITH AN ON-COURSE BOOKMAKER
1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to offer the correct stake money for your wager.
2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet, name the horse, (the bookmaker won’t necessarily know it’s number). Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.
3. Should your horse happen to win, present your betting ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings
4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, i.e. for a win or a place
5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise the racegoer as to his rights.
6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes. e.g.£1, £5 or £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.
HOW TO READ THE RACECARD
EACH WAY BETTING
The RCA and the bookmaking association have agreed the following terms for all bookmakers offering each way betting on course.
NON-HANDICAPS
5 - 7 runners; One quarter the odds 1,2
8+ runners; One fifth the odds 1,2,3
HANDICAPS
5 - 7 runners; One quarter the odds 1,2 8 - 11 runners; One fifth the odds 1,2,3 12 - 15 runners; One quarter the odds 1,2,3 16+ runners; One quarter the odds 1,2,3,4
All bookmakers must display on their boards whether they are betting each way or to win only.

HIDDEN HEROICS has taken very well to fences, winning both his starts at Exeter and Cheltenham unchallenged, and he can complete the hat-trick back from a break. Quoi de Neuf scored with plenty in hand over hurdles here last week and is only 4lb higher back over fences, so rates the main threat ahead of Fuji Flight, who took a step back in the right direction at Uttoxeter and is on a winning mark.

PLAY SMARTER
Race Summary: OVERSTATE justified market confidence when making a winning debut for this yard on the AW at Kempton last month and could be up to making a successful start over hurdles in receipt of a handy weight-for-age allowance. Welsh Charger sets the standard under a penalty and is the obvious danger, though dual-bumper winner Gallopade is also a potential threat in a first-time hood having pulled too hard on his hurdles bow at Fakenham in October

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
