AFTERNOON RACING WEDNESDAY 22ND FEBRUARY 2023 OFFICIAL PROGRAMME & FORM GUIDE www.ludlowracecourse.co.uk | | | | SUZUKI KINGQUAD THE BEST IN ITS FIELD To explore the range or find out more visit: atv.suzuki.co.uk All KingQuad ATV models (500cc & 750cc) are now in stock through your local Authorised Suzuki Dealer @SUZUKIATVSUK

Welcome to Ludlow Racecourse.

I hope you have a good and enjoyable days racing .

We lost our last meeting on February 8th due to an overnight frost of -3C, which should not have been a problem, but we were covered in freezing fog until 11.30am, which was forecast. Realistically we have to give the all clear to race no later than 10am race day.

Once the sun came through it takes more than an hour to warm the ground up to rid the frost.

Today we have Suzuki ATV/Farm and Garden Machinery sponsoring who kindly supply us with some machinery. Tom our Head groundsman will be driving around on one of their ATV’s.

Our biggest value race is HRH. Prince of Wales Cup for Amateurs coming in at £15,000 and a card worth £75,000 for the day.

Weather patterns have been erratic in 2023 with a very wet early January (80mm) and now frosts and no rain and +15 ! So, the ground staff have been very busy watering to ensure we have good safe ground

Hope you have a good days racing and come back for our next meeting on March 2nd.

Best Wishes,

WELCOME

HOW TO BET WITH AN ON-COURSE BOOKMAKER

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to offer the correct stake money for your wager.

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet, name the horse, (the bookmaker won’t necessarily know it’s number). Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.

3. Should your horse happen to win, present your betting ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, i.e. for a win or a place.

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise the racegoer as to his rights.

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes. e.g.£1, £5 or £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

HOW TO READ THE RACECARD

Race Summary:

PLAY SMARTER

RISKINTHEGROUND hasn’t set the world alight over hurdles so far but he lurks on a good mark based on his bumper form and, representing a leading yard, he could be a different proposition this time Heros has tumbled in the weights so could be dangerous, with The Wrekin expected to step up on his reappearance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

PUBLIC EVACUATION PROCEDURE PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

In the unlikely event that the racecourse buildings need to be evacuated please read the following information for your own safety. The Racecourse Management will only take such action if an emergency situation arises such as a FIRE or BOMB THREAT and all decisions taken will place public safety as a priority.
