THURSDAY 3RD NOVEMBER 2022 OFFICIAL PROGRAMME & FORM GUIDE www.ludlowracecourse.co.uk | | | |

Ludlow Race Club Ltd Registered Office: Ludlow Racecourse Bromfield Ludlow Shropshire SY8 2BT Tel: 01584 856221

Welcome to Ludlow Racecourse for our first November Meeting. The start of the 2022-23 has been tricky with unseasonal dry weather which goes back to January which has had a major impact on numbers of runners all over the country. We lost our first meeting in October as we were struggling to apply enough water without leaving our water supplies empty as we were not allowed to replenish our water supplies due to Water Conservation rules.

But hopefully now we are back on track so I would like to welcome our sponsors, Hot to Trot Racing, Fonzie for his 60th, Vera Davies family, the Michael Oliver family and friends and the Food Festival. Please do pay the Windsor Marquee a visit and see the delicious local foods on offer at the Food Festival.

I hope you all have a good day’s racing; we have some good prize money on offer just shy of £85,000.

Best Wishes, Simon Sherwood (Managing Director/Clerk of the Course)

HOW TO BET WITH AN ON-COURSE BOOKMAKER

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to offer the correct stake money for your wager.

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet, name the horse, (the bookmaker won’t necessarily know it’s number). Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.

3. Should your horse happen to win, present your betting ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, i.e. for a win or a place

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise the racegoer as to his rights.

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes. e.g.£1, £5 or £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

EACH WAY BETTING

The RCA and the bookmaking association have agreed the following terms for all bookmakers offering each way betting on course.

NON-HANDICAPS

5 7 runners; One quarter the odds 1,2 8+ runners; One fifth the odds 1,2,3

HANDICAPS

5 7 runners; One quarter the odds 1,2

8 11 runners; One fifth the odds 1,2,3

12 15 runners; One quarter the odds 1,2,3 16+ runners; One quarter the odds 1,2,3,4

All bookmakers must display on their boards whether they are betting each way or to win only.

you just need a quick snack or perhaps you fancy a full English breakfast roll?! Ludlow was one of his favourite and most successful racecourses. He retired from training in 1991 but remained closely involved, buying and selling a large number of National Hunt horses right up to his death in 2020

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

PUBLIC EVACUATION PROCEDURE PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

The Racecourse Management will only take such action if an emergency situation arises such as a FIRE or BOMB THREAT and all decisions taken will place public safety as a priority.
