Welcome to Ludlow Racecourse for our first November Meeting. The start of the 2022-23 has been tricky with unseasonal dry weather which goes back to January which has had a major impact on numbers of runners all over the country. We lost our first meeting in October as we were struggling to apply enough water without leaving our water supplies empty as we were not allowed to replenish our water supplies due to Water Conservation rules.

But hopefully now we are back on track so I would like to welcome our sponsors, Hot to Trot Racing, Fonzie for his 60th, Vera Davies family, the Michael Oliver family and friends and the Food Festival. Please do pay the Windsor Marquee a visit and see the delicious local foods on offer at the Food Festival.

HOW TO BET WITH AN ON-COURSE BOOKMAKER

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to offer the correct stake money for your wager.

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet, name the horse, (the bookmaker won’t necessarily know it’s number). Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.

3. Should your horse happen to win, present your betting ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, i.e. for a win or a place

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise the racegoer as to his rights.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
