Welcome to our Post Christmas Festive Raceday 2023 A very Merry Christmas to one and all and a huge thank you for supporting us this year. For all of you and in addition to our 7 competitive races we have lots of family friendly side stalls all of which are FREE of charge.

The first of 7 races commences today at 12.13pm with the final race being 3.43pm.

Important points to note are: Public bars and food stands will close today immediately following the final race and the racecourse will close shortly after.

Please take a look at the racecourse map within your racecard to familiarise yourself with our facilities and in particular the location of our first aid unit where we have 4 qualified staff plus a Paramedic ambulance to look after any slip, trips or bumps you may have and hopefully nothing more serious.

For our loyal Owners, Trainers we have provided the Paddock Pavilion for dining plus The Club Room for viewing today where you will find televisions, a bar, complimentary tea and coffee and a two course meal (owners and trainers only). You may also use the Club Terrace area. For our Annual badge holders we have the Paddock Pavilion available today.

Please be aware that we no longer accept cash at all bar and food outlets only debit or credit cards. Please be assured that turnstiles and betting facilities will continue to accept cash. For those customers who either forget their cards or do not possess a debit card or credit card, we have opened “voucher outlets” where you will be able to exchange your cash for vouchers and should you not spend your vouchers on the day you will be able to exchange them back for cash from the main office before you leave (up to 30 minutes after the last race), or use them on a future meeting. Today these outlets are situated at the Main Office, the Main Tote building and the Betting Hall Tote. We are pleased to say that this change has sped up service and improved security.

PLEASE NOTE THAT LADIES DAY 2024 TAKES PLACE ON SATURDAY 15TH JUNE WITH 4 BIG NAME ACTS SHORTLY TO BE ANNOUNCED. 3 OF THESE WILL PERFORM BEFORE RACING ALONG WITH THE BEST DRESSED COMPETITION, THEN A SUPERB HEADLINER WILL PERFORM AFTER RACING. DOORS WILL OPEN AT 12 NOON AND TICKETS WILL GO ON SALE EARLY IN THE NEW YEAR. Some other points of interest are: • Our executive boxes, Club room and Nelson Restaurant have now been refurbished • Our KUBE building has also been completely refurbished and is once again operating as a self-hire wedding and exhibition centre.

Star Ratings Explained: Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: ★★★★★ Selected to win the race. ★★★★✩ Good chance of being placed. ★★★✩✩ By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims ★★✩✩✩ Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. ★✩✩✩✩ Can be given little or no chance.

Official BHA Ratings The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Dominic’s Fault is probably capable of much better than he showed on his sole start to date at Aintree in May 2022 and it will be interesting to see how he shapes PLAY SMARTER up in the betting, while Professor Klump will be of greater interest when handicapping and faced with a stiffer test in due course.
