Raceday Preview

1.30pm - Ethandun showed plenty of early speed in his last run at Lingfield and might well improve for that run. Northerner was runner up in a maiden race at Wolverhampton last time out. The winner of that race won next time out and Northerner should have her chances here if ready on season debut. SkyWarrior was a nice winner of a maiden at Doncaster last July The runner up in that race went on to win a nursery handicap at York next time out. He looks to have lots of early pace and is fancied to go close for trainer Clive Cox

2.05pm - Choisya is a course and distance winner who steps up in grade, but today’s task is certainly within her range. Many Tears has her first start for James Ferguson after changing from the Ger Lyons yard in Ireland. Her Dundalk runs last year (including winning an listed fillies race) would put her right in the mix here.

2.40pm - A competitive handicap with plenty of horses in with a chance. Intinso brings good recent form to the table. He won a handicap at Wolverhampton at the short price of 8/15 last month. He is 2 from 3 on the all-weather and there could be plenty more to come from the gelding now running off 98. Old Harrovian ran very free last season in the Al Rayyan Stakes at Newbury He is 2 from 2 on the all-weather and had shown lots of promise in his previous wins prior to the Newbury defeat A mark of 93 looks fair for the Andrew Balding gelding.

3.15pm - Novel Legend was well beaten in the Group 1 Prix Royal-Oak at Longchamp and also in the Irish Cesarewitch last season but the 5 year old son of Nathaniel should be more at home here. He is a course and distance winner who stays well and should be in with a shout running off 98. Sweet Fantasy was a runaway winner in a Catterick Novice Hurdle last month. Today represents a stiffer task but she is coming here on good form and running off a flat mark of 87 makes her an interesting proposition. Aqwaam was a nice winner on Good Friday in the All-Weather Vase Marathon Handicap at Lingfield. He goes up 4lbs in the weights but can’t be dismissed for trainer Ian Williams.

3.45pm - Ahlain steps up in trip to 1 mile for the first time. She ran a nice race last time out at Lingfield. She can run from the front if needed and should be in the mix here today. Devoted Queen (NAP) made an eye catching debut at Newmarket in a 7 furlong maiden race, winning by over 2 lengths. The form of that race was since worked out well and the Kingman filly for Charlie Appleby also has a 1000 Guineas entry It is possible that she might be a cut above her opposition here but she will still need to go out and back up her debut run.

4.25pm - Notable Speech is a dual course and distance winner. The form of his race here in February has worked out well, with Cuban Tiger winning a listed race since then. Witness Stand was runner up in the Group 3 Horris Hill Stakes at Newmarket last November It’s his first run on the all-weather but he makes plenty of appeal with Oisin Murphy taking the ride for trainer Tom Clover.

4.55pm - Desert Cop drops down in class here on his seasonal debut. He finished down the field in the Virgin Bet Ayr Gold Cup last year but had some nice performances in him earlier in the season, including finishing 2nd, two lengths behind Shaquille in a Listed race at Newbury Azure Angel is a course and distance winner and she won a 6 furlong race at Newcastle in February She is now off a mark of 93 and looks set to run another big race here today. Knebworth comes here off the back of a recent win at Doncaster. He is drawn in stall 2 and runs well on the allweather He is one for the shortlist.
