WELCOME Welcome to Kelso for the Festive Fling Raceday. We hope that you have enjoyed a wonderful Christmas and that you have a super afternoon here at the races. We are glad to have this opportunity to host so many happy gatherings of families, friends, and work colleagues. This final race on this afternoon’s card, the £18,000 CHAS Handicap Hurdle Race, will be broadcast live as part of ITV Racing’s festive coverage. The race is one of two on today’s programme which has been sponsored in support of Children’s Hospices Across Scotland. We hope that all those that have come specifically to support today’s charitable brunch at the racecourse have a fabulous day. We are grateful to our race sponsors who, in addition to the supporters of CHAS, include Racing TV and the Amateur Jockeys Association. We’d like to thank each of them for their support and wish all their guests a successful afternoon. We would also like to extend an especially warm welcome to the connections of all the runners on today’s card – thank you for choosing to run at Kelso, we couldn’t put on such a fun spectacle without your support. Advance ticket sales for this meeting have proved extremely popular and we hope that everyone finds a comfortable niche from which to enjoy the day’s events. Following the final race, there will be an After Party in the Belhaven Village Marquee, with a local DJ, to which all racegoers are invited – so, if you’re enjoying that festive feelin’, why not stay for a boogie! Wishing you the very best for 2026 – from everyone at Kelso Racecourse. Jonathan Garratt Managing Director, Kelso Races Ltd

How to Bet 1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number. 2. Choose your bet – ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types: • ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first. • ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet. • What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places. • The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure! 3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet. 4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”. 5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings! 6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard. Please gamble responsibly. For more information visit www.gambleaware.co.uk

You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted

Sheepskin Cheek Pieces worn by No. 2, 7. Running for the first time since Wind Surgery No. 9. Stewards Note: TREAD SOFTLY NOW: Following its run on 5/12/2025 it was reported that the horse lost its left-hind shoe. Probable S.P’s: 11-4 Lowlands (IRE), 10-3 Speiriuil (IRE), 5-1 She’s Notjoeking (GB), 7-1 Tread Softly Now (GB), 8-1 Magnolia (FR), 18-1 Nellie Bluesky (GB), 25-1 Theirshegoes (IRE), 33-1 Inspire Hope (IRE), 40-1 Theatre Light (IRE) A first success in handicap company could be in the offing for SHE’S NOTJOEKING, who should benefit from this slight drop back in trip judged on her effort at Ayr where she was bang there at the second-last before weakening in the closing stages, PLAY SMARTER eventually finishing 7 3/4 lengths third to Tread Softly Now. She now enjoys a healthy pull at the weights with that rival and while Tread Softly Now still warrants respect, Speiriuil and Lowlands rate the main dangers in that order of preference. It’s unlikely that a 7lb rise will be enough to stop BARATABLET in his tracks, given the manner of his recent reappearance display at Newcastle. He gets the nod ahead of Magic Wave, who lacks a recent PLAY SMARTER run but he has won twice before on the back of absences of six months or more and will be a threat if again ready to roll following a break. SAFETY INFORMATION A day at Kelso Racecourse should be great fun for everyone; nobody wants an injury or an incident to spoil their day. So, when push comes to shove, we need to make sure that there isn’t any pushing or shoving. The racecourse team prepares carefully for each event and we take every precaution to ensure that the site is as safe as is practical. However, we also need some help from you – to take responsibility for your own safety and to respect the safety and comfort of those around you. With this in mind, we’ve compiled a brief list of precautions that we’d like all visitors to consider: Alcohol & Substance Abuse Fortunately very few accidents occur at Kelso Racecourse, but those that do are most likely to be relatively minor incidents involving someone who has had too much to drink. Quite simply: you’ll be safer if you drink less alcohol. On the rare occasion that we receive a customer complaint, it’s quite likely to be linked to the behaviour of someone who’s had one too many. So please drink responsibly and encourage your friends to stay within their limits. Any incident involving substance abuse will be dealt with by Police Scotland. Slips, Trips, Falls We’ve commenced a series of developments at the racecourse and we’re gradually making the site more accessible for all, with smoother surfaces and ramps where we have differences in gradient. Please note that the site is not flat and there may be differences in levels, particularly between old surfaces, and surfaces which have recently been renewed. Please take care of yourselves and mind where you walk. Don’t try to run faster than your legs can go, even if you think your bookmaker might be packing away for the day. Fences, Walls & Barriers The fences, walls and temporary barriers located on the racecourse are intended to segregate people into specific areas. This may include segregating people from horses or people from sensitive or hazardous equipment. Please do not attempt to climb over, sit on or stand on any barriers – regardless of whether they appear to be permanent or temporary features – they are not designed to take a person’s weight. Horses Horses are big and run very fast; hopefully yours will run fastest of all. Please pay attention when in close proximity to the horses: stay on the public side of any barriers (close to the track or horse walk areas) and do not sit on or lean over barriers near to the horses. The running rails are designed to encourage the horses to stay on the track – but they will not withstand a horse’s weight if they hit them, nor a jockey’s if he is thrown over them – so be prepared to move if a horse is behaving erratically. Fires We’re proud of Kelso’s reputation for providing a warm welcome and the unique feature provided by the real fires that we light in the listed Grandstand and in the log-burning braziers surrounding the Parade Ring. Our Fires have no brains – so please use your own. Fires are hot and there is a danger of burning yourself if you touch the fire or the surrounding metalwork. Please do not put anything in the fires or fireplaces. Children We welcome many children to Kelso races. Although we don’t consider them to be particularly dangerous, we do ask that all children are appropriately supervised by a responsible adult – who should be particularly mindful of all the considerations above.
