Welcome to Kelso for the second day of the Go North Festival.
The Go North Festival, which commenced on Friday at Musselburgh, is a collaborative effort between three different northern racecourses and the BHA Tomorrow the travelling circus moves on to Carlisle for the concluding day of the three-day meeting. The objective is to create an aspirational race programme that helps to develop jumping talent in the North - a programme of nine series finals which encourage racehorse owners to race (and maybe even keep) their horses in the North.
We are extremely grateful to BetVictor for their sponsorship of today’s programme alongside the Schloss Roxburghe Hotel. Together with the broadcast coverage provided by the ITV Racing team, their generous support is integral to the staging of this valuable programme.
Today we stage two Go North Series Finals, named for two favourites of the northern racing scene: Cab On Target and Jodami. We also stage the £50,000 Final of the Herring Queen Mares Novices Hurdle Series, the inaugural running of which was won by the Nicky Henderson trained Theatre Glory - who played a creditable supporting role in Honeysuckle’s curtain call on racing’s most celebrated stage last week
Elsewhere on the programme, Big River bids to become Kelso’s winningmost horse in the BetVictor Handicap Chase. Please show your appreciation to the connections of all of the runners on today’s programme. We are grateful for the opportunity to see so many outstanding horses gathered at Kelso and we wish all of the connections a truly enjoyable afternoon.
Finally, we’d like to extend a warm welcome to all racegoers – you help to create the wonderful atmosphere that Kelso is known for. Good luck and may you find plenty of winners.

1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number
2. Choose your bet
‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types:
• ‘To win’ is for your horse to come frst
• ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come frst, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.
• What qualifes as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - frst place only; between five and seven runners - frst and second place; eight runners and over - frst three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - frst four places
• The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a ffth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!
3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet
4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”.
5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings!
6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard.
Please gamble responsibly For more information visit www.gambleaware.co.uk
You must be 18 or over to place a bet
You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet
If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted
Simply fill in your details below, tear out and drop into one of the designated boxes (or to the raceday office at the main entrance) before the fifth race.
The winner will be announced before the final race.

Lucinda Russell is Kelso’s leading trainer and runs Inis
Ryan Mania is operating at a 16.4% strike rate for the past twelve months and he rides Salvino (1.50), Flowers Of Scotland (2.25), Better Be Definite (4.10), Cedar Hill (4.45), Blue
Trained by Mary Reveley, Cab On Target made a winning racecourse debut in a Kelso Bumper on 23rd February 1990, less than four weeks before Jodami who also has a race series final named in his honour on this card.
Having scored at 5/1 on his first attempt, Cab on Target made it a brace of wins at Kelso when he returned for a second Bumper in November before embarking on a winning spree over hurdles at distances varying from two-and-ahalf miles to three miles A prolific scorer, he won eight times from ten runs during the 1991/92 season, finishing second on the other two occasions
In November 1993 Cab On Target was beaten by three-quarters of a length by our old friend Jodami over fences at Haydock, albeit in receipt of 15lbs
We are delighted to commemorate Cab On Target through the staging of the 2½ mile BetVictor Go North Handicap Hurdle series and look forward to making more exciting racing memories on Saturday

A day at Kelso Racecourse should be great fun for everyone; nobody wants an injury or an incident to spoil their day. So, when push comes to shove, we need to make sure that there isn’t any pushing or shoving.
The racecourse team prepares carefully for each event and we take every precaution to ensure that the site is as safe as is practical. However, we also need some help from you – to take responsibility for your own safety and to respect the safety and comfort of those around you. With this in mind, we’ve compiled a brief list of precautions that we’d like all visitors to consider:
Fortunately very few accidents occur at Kelso Racecourse, but those that do are most likely to be relatively minor incidents involving someone who has had too much to drink Quite simply: you’ll be safer if you drink less alcohol. On the rare occasion that we receive a customer complaint, it’s quite likely to be linked to the behaviour of someone who’s had one too many So please drink responsibly and encourage your friends to stay within their limits
Any incident involving substance abuse will be dealt with by Police Scotland.
We’ve commenced a series of developments at the racecourse and we’re gradually making the site more accessible for all, with smoother surfaces and ramps where we have differences in gradient
Please note that the site is not flat and there may be differences in levels, particularly between old surfaces, and surfaces which have recently been renewed. Please take care of yourselves and mind where you walk Don’t try to run faster than your legs can go, even if you think your bookmaker might be packing away for the day
The fences, walls and temporary barriers located on the racecourse are intended to segregate people into specific areas This may include segregating people from horses or people from sensitive or hazardous equipment
Please do not attempt to climb over, sit on or stand on any barriers – regardless of whether they appear to be permanent or temporary features – they are not designed to take a person’s weight
Horses are big and run very fast; hopefully yours will run fastest of all. Please pay attention when in close proximity to the horses: stay on the public side of any barriers (close to the track or horse walk areas) and do not sit on or lean over barriers near to the horses The running rails are designed to encourage the horses to stay on the track
but they will not withstand a horse’s weight if they hit them, nor a jockey’s if he is thrown over them
so be prepared to move if a horse is behaving erratically
We’re proud of Kelso’s reputation for providing a warm welcome and the unique feature provided by the real fires that we light in the listed Grandstand and in the log-burning braziers surrounding the Parade Ring.
Our Fires have no brains – so please use your own. Fires are hot and there is a danger of burning yourself if you touch the fire or the surrounding metalwork Please do not put anything in the fires or fireplaces
We welcome many children to Kelso races Although we don’t consider them to be particularly dangerous, we do ask that all children are appropriately supervised by a responsible adult
who should be particularly mindful of all the considerations above
