PLAY SMARTER

IMPAIRE ET PASSE is admittedly more style over substance at this stage, but he couldn’t have been much more impressive in winning both his hurdle starts to date and, with the longer trip highly unlikely to hold any fears, he’s very much fancied to make his class tell. Hermes Allen produced a scintillating performance in the Challow and has to be considered a big threat, along with last years’s Fred winter runner-up Gaelic Warrior, who has progressed plenty more this season.

GERRI COLOMBE enhanced his reputation when taking his record under Rules to 7-7 in the Scilly Isles at Sandown last month, jumping soundly and coming out on top in game fashion. Very much the type to be suited by the return to further, he can make a bold bid to keep his 100% record intact The Real Whacker, an impressive dual winner over fences here already this term, rates a big threat though. Sir Gerhard, twice a winner at the Festival, and Galia des Liteaux complete the shortlist RACE TIME DISTANCE WELFARE INTEGRITY EQUALITY SAFEGUARDING

Any number to consider but RUN FOR OSCAR is just about the most persuasive option having improved into a very useful stayer on the Flat during the second half of 2022. He was also better than the result on both hurdles outings since and, representing a yard with very few peers in handicaps, he looks the way to go with cheekpieces back on. Captain Conby has presumably been saved for this and he’s open to lots of progress, with Good Risk At All perhaps the pick of the British contenders.

FEEL GOOD INC was quite impressive when making a winning start over hurdles at Doncaster and is easily excused his subsequent run in better company at Haydock. PLAY SMARTER

Potentially the race of the week featuring the 1-2-3 from the rearranged Clarence House Chase here in January, EDWARDSTONE getting the verdict to emerge on top this time and master reigning champion Energumene, who posted his first ever below-par effort when 6 1/2 lengths back in third. Editeur du Gite was ridden to perfection that day and Gary Moore’s bold-jumping front runner may have to settle for bronze on this occasion, in what promises to be a tactically-intriguing affair

His stablemate Galvin is the other class act in this field and looks a huge threat if he takes to the new discipline, while Franco de Port represents another top Irish yard and has enough ability to make his presence felt The others all have improvement to find.

Probable S.P’s: 5-2 Enduring Love (IRE), 4-1 Spotty Dog (GB), 5-1 Bignorm (IRE), 13-2 Earcomesbob (GB), 9-1 Leskinfere (IRE), 11-1 Alright Chief (IRE), 25-1 Williamdeconqueror (GB), 40-1 Voice of Hope (IRE)

PLAY SMARTER

In a race where few arrive with compelling claims, BIGNORM is taken to build on a back-to-form third in a more competitive race than this at Chepstow. Enduring Love can clout the odd fence but has been placed on all 3 outings since joining Olly Murphy and rates the chief threat ahead of Alright Chief

PLAY SMARTER

Plenty of exposed sorts in this year’s renewal so ANDY DUFRESNE, who was a strong favourite when runner-up off the same mark 12 months ago, is taken to defy top weight and go one place better having been laid out for this again. The Irish could well dominate, with Final Orders, Dinoblue and Coeur Sublime making up the shortlist

PLAY SMARTER

Willie Mullins fields 10 as he bids for a remarkable thirteenth win and the mare FUN FUN FUN could be the way to go. She was a sensational winner of a Grade 2 mares’ event at Leopardstown last month and can follow in the footsteps of Relegate who did the same double for the yard in 2018. A Dream To Share has passed every test so far for John Kiely and sets a very good standard. Encanto Bruno and Better Days Ahead are other interesting runners away from the Mullins’ battalion.

WESTERNINTHEPARK fetched six figures after finishing second in a point and his new stable should have him well prepared, so he is worth chancing to make a successful start under Rules. Resplendent Grey is an obvious danger having made a successful debut at Market Rasen 3 months ago and Stop Loss makes plenty of appeal on pedigree

Behaviour And Dress Code

The Racecourse reserves the right to refuse admission to all enclosures or to eject any person from the racecourse. When patrons are refused or ejected from the racecourse they will not be entitled to a refund. When leaving the Racecourse please be considerate of our neighbours.

The dress code is smart casual. The Racecourse reserves the right to refuse admission to patrons failing to comply with this request.

Emergency Evacuation

Huntingdon Racecourse has significantly enhanced Safety and Security measures this year to enhance your safety, comfort and enjoyment of the day. However, an incident may occur which is beyond our control and it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency. As part of our safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced stewards and you will see them at various points throughout the racecourse. In the event of a situation, which requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards. The evacuation procedures have been carefully planned to lead you to a safe area. Should it be necessary to evacuate the course itself, there will be two main options; firstly to return to your vehicles if safe to do so and leave via the main entrance. Secondly, should it not be safe to return to your vehicles, you will be requested to leave via an emergency evacuation gate, either to the assembly Point behind the Clubhouse, overflow to the picnic car park or if both these areas are compromised then to use the Centre of the Course, where you will receive further instructions. It may give you peace of mind if you pre plan and agree a meeting place, just in case you become separated from your party. The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, in the event of an emergency, remember; take your belongings with you under the directions of the Stewards, proceed quickly and calmly to the safe area.

IMPORTANT NOTICES

Health And Safety Notice

The Racecourse would be grateful if racegoers would observe all Health and Safety requirements whilst at Huntingdon Racecourse. The Emergency Exits from the Bars onto the Grandstand steppings are painted yellow and we would appreciate it if Racegoers would not stop in this area. We would also be grateful if only those that are Disabled use the Disabled Viewing Ramp and that parents keep a close eye on children and prevent them from climbing on the running rails and getting onto the actual racecourse. We would also like to remind racegoers that the FIRST AID room is located on the ground floor of the Cromwell Stand. Public access is prohibited to the Centre Course.

Racehorse & Jockey Welfare

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Huntingdon Racecourse employs three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident vinvolving a jockey.

If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.

Photography

Racegoers please note it is not permitted to take photographs on racecourses except within the areas normally open to the public. Amateur photographers must ensure that they do not intrude upon areas used by professional photographers. Flash photography is not permitted in any circumstances.
