Huntingdon Racecard - Sunday 26th December

Page 1

Official Programme - £3.00

THE JOCKEY CLUB WELCOMES YOU

A very festive welcome to Huntingdon for one of our most popular racedays of the year, Boxing Day at the Races. We hope you had a wonderful Christmas and that today is a continuation of your celebrations. We have seven races to savour this afternoon and they all look highly competitive. The Alconbury Hurdle looks a particularly intriguing puzzle and was won in 2017 by Cloth Cap, a horse who went on to win Newbury’s prestigious Ladbrokes Trophy. There looks to be plenty of talent on display in the Racing TV Novices’ Handicap Chase and it is always worth keeping a watchful eye on those who perform well in our concluding race, a flat race for Jumps horses with little or no racecourse experience. You need not miss the action from our sister racecourse, Kempton Park, where today’s Grade 1 Ladbrokes King George VI Chase takes centre stage. The race will be shown live on both the big screen and smaller screens around Huntingdon at 3.05. We are continuing to make great progress with the works to reinstate our facilities, which were badly damaged by flooding last winter. I am pleased to report that facilities are gradually reopening, such as Gurney’s Bar and Lentons Bar, but I thank you for your patience while work continues. Please note that, as per government guidance, face coverings are mandatory in all indoor spaces except when eating and drinking, while we continue to recommend checking in via the NHS COVID-19 app. QR codes remain located around the racecourse to enable you to check in should you wish to. The safety of our spectators and participants remains our utmost priority. I wish all of today’s participants the very best of luck and hope that you have a wonderful time with us at Huntingdon.

CONGRATULATIONS FRANCESCA!

Huntingdon Racecourse would like to congratulate Francesca Altoft on winning the coveted ‘Photo of the Year’ trophy at the 2021 Horserace Writers and Photographers Association (HWPA) Derby Awards earlier this month. Francesca was winning the award for the second consecutive year. Her submission captures a dramatic moment when Tease And Seize was acting up before a race at Bath. Thankfully his jockey Charlie Bennett was able to get him under control and they finished second that day. Tease And Seize has since won two races over hurdles and we are sure that there will plenty more awards going Francesca’s way in the future too. We are proud to say that Francesca is Huntingdon Racecourse’s own raceday photographer and her work is very much appreciated.

IMPORTANT NOTICES Admission & Conditions Of Entry

Emergency Evacuation

• Entry to the racecourse is subject to the right of the Racecourse Executive to refuse to admit and/or to expel, without prior notice, any person whose behaviour is considered to be unruly or unacceptable or is a disqualified person.

Huntingdon Racecourse has significantly enhanced Safety and Security measures this year to enhance your safety, comfort and enjoyment of the day. However, an incident may occur which is beyond our control and it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency. As part of our safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced stewards and you will see them at various points throughout the racecourse. In the event of a situation, which requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards. The evacuation procedures have been carefully planned to lead you to a safe area. Should it be necessary to evacuate the course itself, there will be two main options; firstly to return to your vehicles if safe to do so and leave via the main entrance. Secondly, should it not be safe to return to your vehicles, you will be requested to leave via an emergency evacuation gate, either to the assembly Point behind the Clubhouse, overflow to the picnic car park or if both these areas are compromised then to use the Centre of the Course, where you will receive further instructions. It may give you peace of mind if you pre plan and agree a meeting place, just in case you become separated from your party. The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, in the event of an emergency, remember; take your belongings with you under the directions of the Stewards, proceed quickly and calmly to the safe area.

• Bringing Food and Drink into the Main Enclosure other than that purchased at the racecourse is prohibited. • Racegoers must at all times comply with any conditions, rules and regulations in operation, including the observance of no drinking areas for safety reasons. • No dogs allowed anywhere on site except guide dogs. Dogs must not be left in vehicles and anyone found leaving a dog in a vehicle may face prosecution. • In the event of racing being abandoned, refunds on tickets purchased will be paid as follows: - Abandonment before completion of the first race - full refund - Abandonment between the conclusion of the first race and third race - racegoers will receive a 50% refund.- Abandonment thereafter - no refund. • All refunds must be claimed within 28 days of the racemeeting. Please send badges with covering letter stating full name and address to: Ticket Refunds, Huntingdon Racecourse, Brampton, Huntingdon, Cambs, PE28 4NL. Huntingdon will have no responsibility or liability of any nature in respect of any refund request received after 28 days.

Behaviour And Dress Code The Racecourse reserves the right to refuse admission to all enclosures or to eject any person from the racecourse. When patrons are refused or ejected from the racecourse they will not be entitled to a refund. When leaving the Racecourse please be considerate of our neighbours. The dress code is smart casual. The Racecourse reserves the right to refuse admission to patrons failing to comply with this request.

Health And Safety Notice The Racecourse would be grateful if racegoers would observe all Health and Safety requirements whilst at Huntingdon Racecourse. The Emergency Exits from the Bars onto the Grandstand steppings are painted yellow and we would appreciate it if Racegoers would not stop in this area. We would also be grateful if only those that are Disabled use the Disabled Viewing Ramp and that parents keep a close eye on children and prevent them from climbing on the running rails and getting onto the actual racecourse. We would also like to remind racegoers that the FIRST AID room is located on the ground floor of the Cromwell Stand. Public access is prohibited to the Centre Course.

Racehorse & Jockey Welfare The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Huntingdon Racecourse employs three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident vinvolving a jockey.

If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.

Photography Racegoers please note it is not permitted to take photographs on racecourses except within the areas normally open to the public. Amateur photographers must ensure that they do not intrude upon areas used by professional photographers. Flash photography is not permitted in any circumstances.
