BET TING WITH THE BOOKMAKERS
DIFFERENT WAYS TO BET - WIN OR EACH-WAY
The two main types of bet are win and each-way. For win bets, your horse needs to win the race outright An each-way bet is effectively two bets – one for your horse to win and one for it to be placed. So a £2 each-way bet will cost £4 A bookmaker taking each-way bets will display the terms on which they accept such bets on their board. In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.
• Fewer than 3 runners - Win bets only, no places offered
• 3 or 4 runners – Win bets only Where a bookmaker wishes to depart from this default position they may offer place terms at 1/5 odds a place 1-2.
• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2
• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3
• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3
• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3-4
• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4
PLACING YOUR BET
Shop around for the best odds When you have decided where to place your bet, state the number of your horse and the stake, for example “Number 4, £2 win” Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to their clerk and hand them your money. You will then be given an itemised receipt detailing your bet and potential winnings. You should keep this safe until you have heard ‘Weighedin’ announced after the race If your bet is successful, hand your ticket to the bookmaker and they will give you your winnings

Olly Murphy’s NACHTGEIST gets the nod to build on his latest Worcester second. Seasett is potentially well treated for new trainer Mickey Bowen if a recent wind operation sparks an upturn in his fortunes. Divilabother and Palm Beach are others who could go well now setting out for new yards.

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE
Hexham Racecourse employs veterinary surgeons whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse
In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the Racecourse’s Veterinary team.
Qualified Paramedics and Doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey.
If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving the treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment.

The two interesting contenders are arguably chase debutantes KILLYBEGS JET LADY and Sir Carnegie. The latter has the assistance of Sean Bowen equipped with a tongue tie for the first time but the former is a winning pointer who has been in reasonable order this summer so she gets the vote. Ribeye should run his race again.
