THE RACECOURSE EXECUTIVE EXTEND A WARM WELCOME TO ALL OWNERS, TRAINERS, SPONSORS AND RACEGOERS.
We are delighted to be racing today which is now our first meeting of the year after having had to abandon what would have been our first fixture earlier this month.
Weatherbys the administrators of British Horseracing kindly agreed to sponsor, we appreciate their assistance and are pleased to host their representatives.

We are extremely grateful to the BHA for rescheduling the “BK Racing Hexham Marathon” 4mile Steeple Chase from our abandoned meeting and to BK Racing for their continued sponsorship of the race. There is a voucher in todays racecard offering an enhanced bet on the race so please take advantage of that Our thanks go to the family of Ronnie Parkes who have sponsored 5th race, also to Horslyx who sponsor the 7th race today and provide a 5kg tub of Horslyx to the trainers of every winner at each meeting.
Racing to School who organise educational trips, bringing school children to the racecourse and teaching subjects in a different environment from the classroom are present today with pupils from Samuel King’s School, Alston.
We hope Racing to School , and everyone present on course today has an enjoyable day and look forward to welcoming everyone back in future

1. Form
A quick way to see a horse’s past performance. These are its recent finishing positions
Look out for letters:
C = has won at this course
D = has won over this distance
CD = has won over this distance at this course
BF = was a beaten favourite last time EXPERT VIEW
How the experts rate the horse’s chances:
2. BHA rating = the higher the number, the better the horse.
3. Timeform view and TFR rating
4. Horse’s trainer & their location
Look out for the summary of leading course trainers before each race.
5. Jockey
Listen out for any jockeys who are having a successful day.
6. Owner’s colours worn by the jockey
7. Saddlecloth number
8. Horse’s name
9. Days since the horse last run
10 Horse’s age

EACH HORSE HAS BEEN GIVEN A STAR RATING, DEFINITION BELOW:
Selected to win the race
Good chance of being placed
By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
More information on the form
- = New racing season
/ = Missed racing season
P = was pulled-up and didn’t finish the race
F = horse fell
U = rider unseated
R = horse refused to race
CO = the horse was forced out of a race by a loose horse
B = horse was brought down
S = horse slipped
r = the horse ran around a jump or took the wrong course in a flat race
D = disqualified
Bold form figures = performance in All-weather (Flat) or point-to-point (Jump) races
Unlikely to win but not totally without hope Can be given little or no chance.
The two main types of bet are win and each-way. For win bets, your horse needs to win the race outright An each-way bet is effectively two bets – one for your horse to win and one for it to be placed. So a £2 each-way bet will cost £4 A bookmaker taking each-way bets will display the terms on which they accept such bets on their board. In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.
• Fewer than 3 runners - Win bets only, no places offered
• 3 or 4 runners – Win bets only Where a bookmaker wishes to depart from this default position they may offer place terms at 1/5 odds a place 1-2.
• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2
• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3
• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3
• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3-4
• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4
Shop around for the best odds When you have decided where to place your bet, state the number of your horse and the stake, for example “Number 4, £2 win” Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to their clerk and hand them your money. You will then be given an itemised receipt detailing your bet and potential winnings. You should keep this safe until you have heard ‘Weighedin’ announced after the race If your bet is successful, hand your ticket to the bookmaker and they will give you your winnings

Given their recent exploits it’s hard not to be drawn to DIDNTGOTWENTY and Scottish King. The latter has raised his game the last twice and merits serious respect in his hat-trick bid but Didntgotwenty did the job well at Musselburgh last time and, provided that he copes with this step back up in trip, a 9lb hike may not be enough to stop him. Killybegs Jet Lady can make her presence felt, too, if ready to roll following a 173-day break.

It is an absolute pleasure to be sponsoring two races across the card at Hexham this afternoon and the 12-runner Weatherbys Handicap Hurdle looks a mightily competitive two-mileaffair.
Jennie Candlish saddled the winner of this contest 12 months ago and holds strong claims again here with course and distance scorer Fromheretoeternity.
