WELCOME E TO HEXHAM

THE RACECOURSE EXECUTIVE EXTEND A WARM WELCOME TO ALL OWNERS, TRAINERS, SPONSORS AND RACEGOERS.
It is always a pleasure to welcome back sponsors and this evening is no exception. We are grateful to Steve Buckley for his continued sponsorship of the 3 mile Steeple Chase in memory of Lynn Siddall, who trained and whose last runner was at this fixture in 2021 Port of Blyth are our main sponsors this evening, and responsible for the feature race of the night at 6.20pm, the “Port of Blyth Handicap Steeple Chase”, together with a further 2 races.

We are also grateful to The Northumberland County Show sponsoring 2 races. The Northumberland County Show takes place at The Bywell Show Field on Saturday 23rd May. It is one of the major attractions taking place throughout the summer in the North East and well worth attending. Advance tickets can be purchased from Northumberland County Show. If in need of assistance when on the racecourse, please contact the racecourse office situated next to the entrance or ask any member of racecourse, stewarding or catering staff who will be able to assist
Whether you are a regular visitor or first time on course we hope you have an enjoyable evening and look forward to welcoming everyone back.

BET TING WITH THE BOOKMAKERS
DIFFERENT WAYS TO BET - WIN OR EACH-WAY
The two main types of bet are win and each-way. For win bets, your horse needs to win the race outright An each-way bet is effectively two bets – one for your horse to win and one for it to be placed. So a £2 each-way bet will cost £4 A bookmaker taking each-way bets will display the terms on which they accept such bets on their board. In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.
• Fewer than 3 runners - Win bets only, no places offered
• 3 or 4 runners – Win bets only Where a bookmaker wishes to depart from this default position they may offer place terms at 1/5 odds a place 1-2.
• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2
• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3
• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3
• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3-4
• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4
PLACING YOUR BET
Shop around for the best odds When you have decided where to place your bet, state the number of your horse and the stake, for example “Number 4, £2 win” Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to their clerk and hand them your money. You will then be given an itemised receipt detailing your bet and potential winnings. You should keep this safe until you have heard ‘Weighedin’ announced after the race If your bet is successful, hand your ticket to the bookmaker and they will give you your winnings

This looks a good chance for SCAIRP DUBH to follow up his chase debut success over C&D at the beginning of the month The chief threat may come from Dianne Sayer’s Out On Her Own, who has been knocking at the door in handicap hurdles and a point background provides hope that she’ll take to fences.

Harry Derham has won with 3 of the 5 runners he’s sent to Hexham from his Lambourn base and can enhance that strike rate with KATIE’S MELODY, who has been shaping up quite well over hurdles and a point win at the start of her career suggests she may do better again now chasing. Killybegs Jet Lady is respected after her good C&D second earlier in the month, while The Clonmel Kid can go well back down in grade.
