HEXHAM TEAM

WELCOME E TO HEXHAM

THE RACECOURSE EXECUTIVE EXTEND A WARM WELCOME TO ALL OWNERS, TRAINERS, SPONSORS AND RACEGOERS.

Not only is today one of, if not the most important day in the flat racing calendar with between 12 -18, 3yo colts thundering around Epsom to win the Derby which will see the victors value considerably enhanced through future breeding rights but we stage the first Juvenile Hurdle of 2026. Whilst the winner of today’s race will not see its value increase to anywhere near the eye watering sums of the Derby winner, connections will hope it can emulate last year’s winner of this race “One Horse Town” which went on to win a grade 2 Juvenile Hurdle at Cheltenham in November

Our thanks go to today’s Sponsors, Marrill Group, ogledital.co.uk, and the families of Marjorie Thompsett and Tricia Hughes all returning sponsors at the racecourse

Following racing this evening we host our first after racing party with Jason Arnup a local singer together with his band performing in the Queen Camilla Stand. Entertainment will start following the last race on the card and they will perform for approximately two hours

Whether you are a regular racegoer or first time on course we hope you have an enjoyable afternoon and look forward to welcoming everyone back

If in need of assistance when on the racecourse please contact the racecourse office situated next to the entrance or ask any member of racecourse, stewarding or catering staff who will be able to assist.

BET TING WITH THE BOOKMAKERS

DIFFERENT WAYS TO BET - WIN OR EACH-WAY

The two main types of bet are win and each-way. For win bets, your horse needs to win the race outright An each-way bet is effectively two bets – one for your horse to win and one for it to be placed. So a £2 each-way bet will cost £4 A bookmaker taking each-way bets will display the terms on which they accept such bets on their board. In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

• Fewer than 3 runners - Win bets only, no places offered

• 3 or 4 runners – Win bets only Where a bookmaker wishes to depart from this default position they may offer place terms at 1/5 odds a place 1-2.

• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2

• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3

• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3

• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3-4

• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

PLACING YOUR BET

Shop around for the best odds When you have decided where to place your bet, state the number of your horse and the stake, for example “Number 4, £2 win” Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to their clerk and hand them your money. You will then be given an itemised receipt detailing your bet and potential winnings. You should keep this safe until you have heard ‘Weighedin’ announced after the race If your bet is successful, hand your ticket to the bookmaker and they will give you your winnings

NEVER SO BRAVE won at Group 1 level last year and can prove too strong with his reappearance under his belt Alcantor showed promise when fourth at Leopardstown on his return and could be the biggest danger, while Ten Bob Tony, who won this race at Haydock last season could bounce back with a big run.

Sparks Fly shaped well in this last year and can handle easier underfoot conditions so is second choice despite carrying a 3lb penalty, while Pina Sonata returned with a stylish win in a listed race at Kempton and remains unexposed.

Easy Chester Vase winner BENVENUTO CELLINI can provide Aidan O’Brien with a fourth successive Derby and record-extending twelfth overall. Dante winner Item is one of the least inexperienced in the line-up having had only 3 runs but that makes his York performance all the more impressive and he can progress again and provide the chief threat ahead of Lingfield Derby Trial 1-2 Maltese Cross and Bay of Brilliance. The selection’s stablemate Pierre Bonnard completes the shortlist.

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

Hexham Racecourse employs veterinary surgeons whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse

In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the Racecourse’s Veterinary team.

Qualified Paramedics and Doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey.

If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving the treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment.
