C = has won at this course
D = has won over this distance
CD = has won over this distance at this course

EACH HORSE HAS BEEN GIVEN A STAR RATING, DEFINITION BELOW:
Selected to win the race
Good chance of being placed
By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
More information on the form
- = New racing season
/ = Missed racing season
P = was pulled-up and didn’t finish the race
F = horse fell
U = rider unseated
R = horse refused to race
CO = the horse was forced out of a race by a loose horse
B = horse was brought down
S = horse slipped
r = the horse ran around a jump or took the wrong course in a flat race
D = disqualified
Bold form figures = performance in All-weather (Flat) or point-to-point (Jump) races
Unlikely to win but not totally without hope Can be given little or no chance.
The two main types of bet are win and each-way. For win bets, your horse needs to win the race outright An each-way bet is effectively two bets – one for your horse to win and one for it to be placed. So a £2 each-way bet will cost £4 A bookmaker taking each-way bets will display the terms on which they accept such bets on their board. In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.
• Fewer than 3 runners - Win bets only, no places offered
• 3 or 4 runners – Win bets only Where a bookmaker wishes to depart from this default position they may offer place terms at 1/5 odds a place 1-2.
• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2
• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3
• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3
• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3-4
• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4
Shop around for the best odds When you have decided where to place your bet, state the number of your horse and the stake, for example “Number 4, £2 win” Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to their clerk and hand them your money. You will then be given an itemised receipt detailing your bet and potential winnings. You should keep this safe until you have heard ‘Weighedin’ announced after the race If your bet is successful, hand your ticket to the bookmaker and they will give you your winnings

Hard to be confident about any of these but ROGER POL arrives on the back of a wide-margin success at Uttoxeter and while that form is probably worth treating with a degree of caution, he’s been found a good opportunity to follow up under a penalty Idem isn’t the most straightforward but is 1-1 at this track and ran well on reappearance last season so he may prove the main danger ahead of Pinot Rouge, who was in good form at this track earlier in the year

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE Hexham Racecourse employs veterinary surgeons whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the Racecourse’s Veterinary team Qualified Paramedics and Doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey. If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving the treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment.
