HEXHAM TEAM

WELCOME E TO HEXHAM

THE RACECOURSE EXECUTIVE EXTEND A WARM WELCOME TO ALL OWNERS, TRAINERS, SPONSORS AND RACEGOERS TODAY.

Our thanks go to Weatherbys for sponsoring today’s fixture, we are also pleased to welcome back the Sidgwick family who are responsible for sponsoring the Novice Handicap Steeple Chase which they have done for many years. We are also grateul to Leadstar Media responsible sponsoring the last two races on the card along with At The Races and The Falcons Events Team.

Since our last meeting on Saturday 12th October, Northern Jump racing has lost one of its most notable figures in John Wade. John was a tremendous supporter of grass roots racing in the north, his maroon colours with white armlets and a maroon cap would feature on most race cards on horses trained by a number of different trainers not least Rebecca Menzies, based at Howe Hills where John trained before he retired from the training ranks in 2016 after sending out nearly 200 winners in both point to points and under rules.

John’s contribution to racing was not restricted to an owner and trainer, he was responsible for many things including sponsoring a highly valuable Selling Hurdle Series for many years at Sedgefield Racecourse where he was also a director

I am sure everyone will have their own memories of John as we have at Hexham The industry and Northern Racing in particular has been considerably richer for his patronage, he will be sorely missed.

BET TING WITH THE BOOKMAKERS

DIFFERENT WAYS TO BET - WIN OR EACH-WAY

The two main types of bet are win and each-way. For win bets, your horse needs to win the race outright An each-way bet is effectively two bets – one for your horse to win and one for it to be placed. So a £2 each-way bet will cost £4 A bookmaker taking each-way bets will display the terms on which they accept such bets on their board. In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

• Fewer than 3 runners - Win bets only, no places offered

• 3 or 4 runners – Win bets only Where a bookmaker wishes to depart from this default position they may offer place terms at 1/5 odds a place 1-2.

• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2

• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3

• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3

• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3-4

• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

PLACING YOUR BET

Shop around for the best odds When you have decided where to place your bet, state the number of your horse and the stake, for example “Number 4, £2 win” Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to their clerk and hand them your money. You will then be given an itemised receipt detailing your bet and potential winnings. You should keep this safe until you have heard ‘Weighedin’ announced after the race If your bet is successful, hand your ticket to the bookmaker and they will give you your winnings

KELCE produced a near-fautless round of jumping when narrowly outpointed on his recent chase debut at Uttoxeter, and he will prove hard to beat off the same mark here (due to go up 3lb for that effort) with improvement likely now moving up in trip. TIMEFORM VIEW In-the-frame all 3 starts in bumpers but below pick of form starting out for new yard when fourth of 11 in bumper at Perth (16.2f) in August. Hood goes on for hurdles debut and booking of Brian Hughes an obvious plus. Not discounted.

Stewards Note: RED SAM: Following its run on 29/2/2024 it was reported that the horse was found to have bled.

HELSGETAWAY showed plenty to work on when finishing midfield on hurdles debut at Wetherby 23 days ago and with that experience unlikely to be lost on him, he can find the requisite improvement and come out on top.
