WELCOME E TO HEXHAM

THE RACECOURSE EXECUTIVE EXTEND A WARM WELCOME TO ALL OWNERS, TRAINERS, SPONSORS AND RACEGOERS TODAY.
It is good to be back racing today following a 3 month break after Ladies Day in June
The summer break gives office staff an opportunity to catch up and prepare for the remaining fixtures this year whilst the ground staff have been incredibly busy with various projects, one of which you will see being the resurfacing of the horse walkway, parade ring and installation of a new surface in the winner’s enclosure.
We are pleased to welcome the friends of the late Martin Bowler who have sponsored the Novice Handicap Chase, in his memory, thanks also to today’s other sponsors, their support is greatly appreciated.

The 2025 fixture list has been published and am delighted to report we have been successful in securing an extra fixture from the BHA making 15 in total and which will be run on the evening of Wednesday 27th August 2025 marks the second year of a 2 year trial being carried out by the BHA to improve racing’s attendances and finances Whilst not hosting any Premier Fixtures, 3 of our Saturday afternoon meetings in May and June will once again be subject to a late afternoon start. Our intention will be to open gates earlier than usual to offer the opportunity to watch racing on the large screen from elsewhere before live racing starts on course
I hope everyone has an enjoyable and successful afternoon.
Robert Whitelock Racecourse Manager

BET TING WITH THE BOOKMAKERS
DIFFERENT WAYS TO BET - WIN OR EACH-WAY
The two main types of bet are win and each-way. For win bets, your horse needs to win the race outright An each-way bet is effectively two bets – one for your horse to win and one for it to be placed. So a £2 each-way bet will cost £4 A bookmaker taking each-way bets will display the terms on which they accept such bets on their board. In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.
• Fewer than 3 runners - Win bets only, no places offered
• 3 or 4 runners – Win bets only Where a bookmaker wishes to depart from this default position they may offer place terms at 1/5 odds a place 1-2.
• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2
• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3
• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3
• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3-4
• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4
PLACING YOUR BET
Shop around for the best odds When you have decided where to place your bet, state the number of your horse and the stake, for example “Number 4, £2 win” Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to their clerk and hand them your money. You will then be given an itemised receipt detailing your bet and potential winnings. You should keep this safe until you have heard ‘Weighedin’ announced after the race If your bet is successful, hand your ticket to the bookmaker and they will give you your winnings

Probable S.P’s: 11-4 Jimli’s Island (GB), 13-2 Shadows In The Sky (IRE), 8-1 Coniston Clouds (IRE), Croagh Patrick (IRE), 10-1 The King of May (FR), 11-1 Sputnik (IRE), 14-1 Follow Your Arrow (FR), Kingofthegame (IRE), 16-1 Ring Pretender (FR), 33-1 Animore (GB)
PLAY SMARTER
JIMILI’S ISLAND has taken off since joining this stable and it’s unlikely the handicapper has caught up with him, so he’s fancied to land the hat-trick at the possible expense of Croagh Patrick, who is lingering on a dangerous mark. Coniston Clouds is a definite player if back on track after a break.
