Good Evening,

WELCOME E TO HEXHAM

Tonight’s meeting starts a hectic period at the racecourse with a further 5 meetings taking place within the next 7 weeks, dates of our fixtures are on the back page of the race card

First race this evening is a selling race where the winner is offered for sale by public auction once the weighed in announcement has been called It is worth a trip to the unsaddling enclosure as it is always a good spectacle to watch and listen too.

We bid a warm welcome to the Roberts family from Cumbria who are responsible for sponsoring the 5th race this evening “The Bobby Roberts Memorial Novice Hurdle”.

With the exception of the selling race which is usually first race on any card we are running the Steeple Chase Races early and consecutively to try and mitigate any problems which may be encountered should there be any low sun.

Should anyone require assistance whilst on course please contact the racecourse office situated next to the turnstiles or ask any member of racecourse, stewarding or catering staff who will be only too pleased to assist.

We hope everyone has an enjoyable and successful evening.

BET TING WITH THE BOOKMAKERS

DIFFERENT WAYS TO BET - WIN OR EACH-WAY

The two main types of bet are win and each-way. For win bets, your horse needs to win the race outright An each-way bet is effectively two bets – one for your horse to win and one for it to be placed. So a £2 each-way bet will cost £4 A bookmaker taking each-way bets will display the terms on which they accept such bets on their board. In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

• Fewer than 3 runners - Win bets only, no places offered

• 3 or 4 runners – Win bets only Where a bookmaker wishes to depart from this default position they may offer place terms at 1/5 odds a place 1-2.

• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2

• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3

• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3

• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3-4

• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

PLACING YOUR BET

Shop around for the best odds When you have decided where to place your bet, state the number of your horse and the stake, for example “Number 4, £2 win” Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to their clerk and hand them your money. You will then be given an itemised receipt detailing your bet and potential winnings. You should keep this safe until you have heard ‘Weighedin’ announced after the race If your bet is successful, hand your ticket to the bookmaker and they will give you your winnings

In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the Racecourse’s Veterinary team.

Qualified Paramedics and Doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey.

If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving the treatment. 2023: NO CORRESPONDING RACE LAST YEAR

Stewards Note: PERCULATOR: Following its run on 13/4/2024 it was reported that the horse lost a shoe.

DILLARCHIE: Following its run on 20/3/2024 it was reported that the horse was unsuited by the going.

LAHARDAUN: Following its run on 15/4/2024 it was reported that the horse was never travelling.

Probable S.P’s: 13-2 Guernesey (FR), 8-1 Better Be Definite (GB), 9-1 Atomic Angel (GB), Glory Hights (GB), 10-1 Paramaribo (IRE), 12-1 Rumble B (IRE), 14-1 Boolamore Classic (IRE), 16-1 Ballin Bay (IRE), 18-1 Lahardaun (IRE), 20-1 Perculator (GB), 25-1 Dillarchie (GB), 28-1 Shantou Moon (IRE), Noble Affair (IRE), 33-1 Rowdy Rustler (IRE), 40-1 Mr Mahler (IRE), 50-1 Something Golden (IRE)

GUERNESEY looked back in form with cheekpieces on for the first time when third in a handicap at Perth recently and, faced with a marked drop in grade, he makes plenty of appeal. Last-time-out winner Better Be Definite is a danger and Atomic Angel should give her running again.
