Good Afternoon,

Having had to abandon the previous meeting on 9th April, it is good to be back racing again this afternoon. From July with the exception of September we have experienced the wettest months since 2020 Whilst the ground staff worked incredibly hard to ensure racing could go ahead, October, November, December last year and for the first two meetings of 2024 the weather finally beat us and we had no option but to cancel

Thanks go to Sky Sports Racing our broadcaster for Sponsorship of today’s meeting allowing us to offer a free race card to all attendees. Sky Sports Racing available on 415 is free to view providing you have a basic Sky Package, representing extremely good value for money it shows live racing from all Arena Racing owned tracks together Ascot, Newbury, Chester, ourselves and a further 4 courses.

Pajunk previous sponsors at the track are responsible for sponsoring “The Jim Scallan Retirement Handicap Steeple Chase”. Jim is retiring after 8 years with the company and will be choosing the best turned out horse prior and presenting a memento to the winning connections following the race

“The Tay Valley Chasers Patrick Crofts Memorial” race was kindly named by Jill Vasey winner of a competition to name a race thanks also go to the sponsors of “Jumping For Fun Open Hunter Steeple Chase”.

A winner over C&D in October CHAPEL GREEN dispelled some lesser displays when fourth in first-time cheekpieces at Kelso (17.1f) 6 weeks ago and having slipped 2lb below his last winning mark, he could be worth chancing to build on that back at this venue. Heritier is operating at the top of his game and is feared, with Cudgel and Gandhi Maker a couple of others to consider in a competitive contest.

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

Hexham Racecourse employs veterinary surgeons whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse

In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the Racecourse’s Veterinary team.

Qualified Paramedics and Doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey.

If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving the treatment.

This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment.

In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the Racecourse’s Veterinary team Qualified Paramedics and Doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey. If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving the treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment.

This Racecourse operates under the Terms and Conditions of Racecourse Guidance as set out by The Racecourse Association, a full copy of which is available in the Raceday Office
