BRITAIN’S MOST SCENIC RACECOURSE VICKERS.BET HALF PRICE RACE DAY Friday 22nd March 2024 OFFICIAL HEXHAM RACECARD & FORM GUIDE £3.00 01434 606881 www.hexham-racecourse.co.uk

THE

WE HOPE EVERYONE HAS AN ENJOYABLE AND SUCCESSFUL DAYS RACING

Following our opening meeting on Thursday 14th March work we had scheduled before our next meeting has been put on hold as we had not anticipated racing again so soon We are pleased to assist ARC and grateful for the BHA allowing us to stage the Sedgefield fixture today enabling the fixture to remain in the North.

There has been a huge effort by our grounds team since we raced on Thursday repairing the track, re-siting hurdles and moving approx.1 mile of running rail, unseen work that goes on behind the scenes to allow a race day to go ahead

Thanks go to Vickers.Bet sponsors of our water jump to step into the breach at such short notice allowing us to name today’s card “Vickers.Bet” Race Day”.

Thanks go to all Owners and Trainers for changing their plans, rerouting from Sedgefield and declaring to run here. We hope everyone in attendance has an enjoyable and successful days racing and look forward to welcoming everyone back in future.

BET TING WITH THE BOOKMAKERS

DIFFERENT WAYS TO BET - WIN OR EACH-WAY

The two main types of bet are win and each-way. For win bets, your horse needs to win the race outright An each-way bet is effectively two bets – one for your horse to win and one for it to be placed. So a £2 each-way bet will cost £4 A bookmaker taking each-way bets will display the terms on which they accept such bets on their board. In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

• Fewer than 3 runners - Win bets only, no places offered

• 3 or 4 runners – Win bets only Where a bookmaker wishes to depart from this default position they may offer place terms at 1/5 odds a place 1-2.

• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2

• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3

• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3

• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3-4

• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

PLACING YOUR BET

Shop around for the best odds When you have decided where to place your bet, state the number of your horse and the stake, for example “Number 4, £2 win” Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to their clerk and hand them your money. You will then be given an itemised receipt detailing your bet and potential winnings. You should keep this safe until you have heard ‘Weighedin’ announced after the race If your bet is successful, hand your ticket to the bookmaker and they will give you your winnings

Assuming GALUNGGUNG is raring to go following a 14-month absence, he will take plenty of stopping. The horse he chased home on his Rules debut at Kelso is a pretty useful type and it’s unlikely that there’s anything of a similar calibre lurking amongst his five rivals in this contest. Fox’s Fancy is the clear pick for forecast purposes given what she showed in bumpers last season, while That One may well pick up minor place money before presumably making the switch to handicaps.

WALK MY WAY took a small step forward while leaving the impression there’s more to come when a staying-on sixth at Wetherby last time, so he could be the answer to a tricky low-grade event. Brian’s Jet has been given a chance by the handicapper so he’s of interest after a break, and Huit Reflets is worth close monitoring in the market on debut for a new yard.
