THE RACECOURSE EXECUTIVE EXTEND A WARM WELCOME TO ALL OWNERS, TRAINERS AND RACEGOERS AND HOPE YOU HAVE AN ENJOYABLE AND SUCCESSFUL EVENING.
I would like to thank Sky Sports Racing for their generous sponsorship this evening in providing a free race card for all attendees and welcome representatives on course of At The Races the promotional arm of Sky Sports Racing Many thanks also go to George Stoker for sponsoring our second race the “Sue Heslop Loves Phil Kirby Racing Handicap Hurdle”
It is good to be racing again following an 11 week break during which time the grounds team have been busy draining areas of the track, rebuilding steeplechase fences, repairing and re lacing all hurdles with new birch, general maintenance and continually cutting grass.
Those of you who follow the racing press will be aware of the new racing industry strategy trial proposed for 2024, 2025 being formulated by the BHA Racing will undergo a rebranding process with the formulation of approximately 160 Premier Fixtures across both codes, the remaining fixtures being classified as Core
Premier fixtures including all the festival meetings will take place on both weekdays and weekends and are being designed to appeal and attract new audience to racing. All Premier fixtures will commence early afternoon showing the feature races on terrestrial TV in a protected 2 hour window commencing at 2.00pm To facilitate this initiative the racing at Core racecourses will commence either at 11.00am or 4.00pm.
The race programme for the next two years is also being radically changed with a reduction in the number of fixtures taking place across both codes and the introduction of 6 race cards between June and September This fixture next year is one of those that are being culled and as a result we will only have 14 meetings in 2024
There will be other developments emerging as we go through the year and will keep you updated in these notes at future meetings.
Whilst on the racecourse should you require assistance please contact the racecourse office situated next to the turnstiles or ask any member of racecourse, catering or stewarding staff who will only to pleased to assist.

Look out for letters:
C = has won at this course
D = has won over this distance
CD = has won over this distance at this course
BF = was a beaten favourite last time
EXPERT VIEW
How the experts rate the horse’s chances:
2. BHA rating = the higher the number, the better the horse.
3. Timeform view and TFR rating
4. Horse’s trainer & their location
Look out for the summary of leading course trainers before each race.
5. Jockey
Listen out for any jockeys who are having a successful day.

7. Saddlecloth number
8. Horse’s name
9. Days since the horse last run
10 Horse’s age
11. Jockey’s weight (stone and ibs)

EACH HORSE HAS BEEN GIVEN A STAR RATING, DEFINITION BELOW: Selected to win the race. Good chance of being placed
By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
More information on the form
- = New racing season
/ = Missed racing season
P = was pulled-up and didn’t finish the race
F = horse fell
U = rider unseated
R = horse refused to race
CO = the horse was forced out of a race by a loose horse
B = horse was brought down
S = horse slipped
r = the horse ran around a jump or took the wrong course in a flat race
D = disqualified
Bold form figures = performance in All-weather (Flat) or point-to-point (Jump) races
Unlikely to win but not totally without hope Can be given little or no chance
The two main types of bet are win and each-way. For win bets, your horse needs to win the race outright An each-way bet is effectively two bets – one for your horse to win and one for it to be placed. So a £2 each-way bet will cost £4 A bookmaker taking each-way bets will display the terms on which they accept such bets on their board. In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.
• Fewer than 3 runners - Win bets only, no places offered
• 3 or 4 runners
Win bets only Where a bookmaker wishes to depart from this default position they may offer place terms at 1/5 odds a place 1-2.
• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2
• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3
• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3
• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3-4
• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4
Shop around for the best odds When you have decided where to place your bet, state the number of your horse and the stake, for example “Number 4, £2 win” Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to their clerk and hand them your money. You will then be given an itemised receipt detailing your bet and potential winnings. You should keep this safe until you have heard ‘Weighedin’ announced after the race If your bet is successful, hand your ticket to the bookmaker and they will give you your winnings

A potential match between LISNAMULT LAD and Belle of Annandale, with marginal preference for the former, who wasn’t seen to best effect but confirmed his liking for this sort of trip when a close third at Downpatrick a couple of months ago. MINELLA PLUS has a lowly hurdles mark to exploit and given the promise of his latest effort at Bangor he looks ready to cash in. This represents a drop in grade for Horn Cape and he’s a massive threat, with the veteran Pateen likely to give it another good shot.
