TIMEFORM VIEW Comfortably held in 4 starts over hurdles and easily best effort over fences when winning over C&D 3 weeks ago. Still unexposed as a stayer

Look out for letters:

C = has won at this course

D = has won over this distance

CD = has won over this distance at this course

BF = was a beaten favourite last time

EXPERT VIEW

How the experts rate the horse’s chances:

2. BHA rating = the higher the number, the better the horse.

3. Timeform view and TFR rating

4. Horse’s trainer & their location

Look out for the summary of leading course trainers before each race.

5. Jockey

Listen out for any jockeys who are having a successful day.

OTHER USEFUL DETAILS

6. Owner’s colours worn by the jockey

7. Saddlecloth number

8. Horse’s name

9. Days since the horse last run

10 Horse’s age

11. Jockey’s weight (stone and ibs)

12. The horse’s breeding – father (sire) and mother (dam)

13 Horse’s owner

14. Horse’s breeder

15 Birthplace of horse (outside GB)

EACH HORSE HAS BEEN GIVEN A STAR RATING, DEFINITION BELOW: Selected to win the race. Good chance of being placed

F = horse fell

U = rider unseated

R = horse refused to race

CO = the horse was forced out of a race by a loose horse

S = horse slipped

r = the horse ran around a jump or took the wrong course in a flat race

D = disqualified

Bold form figures = performance in All-weather (Flat) or point-to-point (Jump) races

Unlikely to win but not totally without hope Can be given little or no chance

BET TING WITH THE BOOKMAKERS

DIFFERENT WAYS TO BET - WIN OR EACH-WAY

The two main types of bet are win and each-way. For win bets, your horse needs to win the race outright An each-way bet is effectively two bets – one for your horse to win and one for it to be placed. So a £2 each-way bet will cost £4 A bookmaker taking each-way bets will display the terms on which they accept such bets on their board. In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

• Fewer than 3 runners - Win bets only, no places offered

• 3 or 4 runners

Win bets only Where a bookmaker wishes to depart from this default position they may offer place terms at 1/5 odds a place 1-2.

• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2

• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3

• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3

• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3-4

• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

PLACING YOUR BET

Shop around for the best odds When you have decided where to place your bet, state the number of your horse and the stake, for example “Number 4, £2 win” Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to their clerk and hand them your money. You will then be given an itemised receipt detailing your bet and potential winnings. You should keep this safe until you have heard ‘Weighedin’ announced after the race If your bet is successful, hand your ticket to the bookmaker and they will give you your winnings

TIMEFORM VIEW Won on the Flat in September and reached the frame in a Carlisle handicap hurdle and Sedgefield handicap chase later in the autumn. Underwent a breathing operation and shaped well when fourth at Thirsk last month, so she could well be in the mix with headgear back on.

TFRHHHII BHA89

FORM 3406-00 D

TIMEFORM VIEW Successful twice at up to 2 1/2m at Perth last summer and very well handicapped on those efforts but out of sorts during the autumn and failed to build on reappearance back there 2 weeks ago. Engaged 2.52 Perth Saturday

11Jun Per 16f HcpH gd-sf 7/12

TFRHHHII BHA86

FORM 20/500-

TIMEFORM VIEW Had been sold cheaply out of Eve Johnson Houghton’s and belatedly took advantage of a much-reduced mark to get off the mark in first-time headgear at Pontefract last month. Not is same form next time and will need to leave his previous hurdling exploits behind.

TFRHHIII BHA82

FORM 00U/00-6

TIMEFORM VIEW Fairly useful winner on Flat but essentially disappointing in this sphere, fading from 3 out at Newcastle (16.9f, good, 66/1) just under 6 weeks ago. Has had a breathing operation since. 16May

TFRHHIII BHA81

FORM 4533-06

TIMEFORM VIEW One win from 29 NH runs and was never really in the hunt when sixth over C&D 8 days ago. Down another 2lb but others make plenty more appeal.

17Jun

TFRHHHHI BHA74

FORM 04/604-2

TIMEFORM VIEW Has hit the crossbar 4 times over hurdles but the more significant statistic is that he’s 0-18 in this sphere. Pushed the favourite close at Newcastle last month but ran one of lesser races back on the Flat since.

PLAY SMARTER

At forecast longer it could be worth siding with JOIE DE VIVRE, who shaped well returning from 10 weeks off back on the level at Thirsk last month and Martin Todhunter’s 8-y-o can notch a third victory in this sphere. Bergentown is likely to be popular having scored first time up for his new yard at Bangor recently Burnage Boy can fill out third spot.

Many Happy Returns Julie Arkle

2022:NO CORRESPONDING RACE LAST YEAR

COMEONRITA: Following its run on 3/6/2023 it was reported that the horse weakened quickly late-on.

Probable S.P’s: 15-8 Classic Lady (IRE), 4-1 Grand du Nord (FR), 9-2 Buto (GB), 6-1 Pipers Cross (IRE), 14-1 Fairland (IRE), 20-1 Blame Rose (IRE), 40-1 Comeonrita (GB), 50-1 Elusive Red (IRE)

CLASSIC LADY was full value for her C&D victory 3 weeks ago, her first under Rules, and she can go in again. Old-rival Buto is a big threat, while Pipers Cross could yet find a race like this.

Congratulations

on your Wedding Anniversary Angela & David Grant

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

Hexham Racecourse employs veterinary surgeons whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse

In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the Racecourse’s Veterinary team.

Qualified Paramedics and Doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey.

If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving the treatment.

This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment.
