WELCOME E TO HEXHAM
It is wonderful to be hosting our Charity Race Day once again, our thanks go to everyone who has been instrumental in organising today.
The two charities who are beneficiaries of todays event are Marie Curie celebrating 75 years in July, who provide care and support for people and families dealing with terminal illnesses and The Sick Childrens Trust whose aims are to provide, free of charge, accommodation at hospitals for families of sick children so they can be at their bedside as much as possible
We hope today is a huge success and everyone involved has an enjoyable afternoon. We extend a warm welcome to members of the Northumberland Young Farmers Club who are celebrating their 90th year also to the Race Club and friends of Michael Foster who are sponsoring the 2mile Handicap Hurdle in his memory. Whilst on the racecourse should you require assistance please contact the racecourse office situated next to the turnstiles or ask any member of racecourse, stewarding or catering staff who will happily assist
We hope all Owners, Trainers and Racegoers have an enjoyable and successful day.

BET TING WITH THE BOOKMAKERS
DIFFERENT WAYS TO BET - WIN OR EACH-WAY
The two main types of bet are win and each-way. For win bets, your horse needs to win the race outright An each-way bet is effectively two bets – one for your horse to win and one for it to be placed. So a £2 each-way bet will cost £4 A bookmaker taking each-way bets will display the terms on which they accept such bets on their board. In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.
• Fewer than 3 runners - Win bets only, no places offered
• 3 or 4 runners
Win bets only Where a bookmaker wishes to depart from this default position they may offer place terms at 1/5 odds a place 1-2.
• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2
• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3
• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3
• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3-4
• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4
PLACING YOUR BET
Shop around for the best odds When you have decided where to place your bet, state the number of your horse and the stake, for example “Number 4, £2 win” Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to their clerk and hand them your money. You will then be given an itemised receipt detailing your bet and potential winnings. You should keep this safe until you have heard ‘Weighedin’ announced after the race If your bet is successful, hand your ticket to the bookmaker and they will give you your winnings
The Sick Children’s Trust is the charity that gives families with a seriously ill child in hospital a comfortable place to stay and a friendly ear to listen in one of our ten ‘Homes from Home’.

Hospital can be a lonely and scary place for anyone, but especially a child. Providing families with somewhere to stay together just minutes from the hospital means that they can be by their sick child’s side and have one less thing to worry about.
The charity has two ‘Homes from Home’ in Newcastle, with Scott House serving families with a seriously ill child at The Freeman, while Crawford House supports families at The Royal Victoria Infirmary.

PLAY SMARTER
This is likely to boil down to a straight fight between KILLEEMORE LAD and Carrarea. The latter is greatly respected in his bid to complete the hat-trick but preference is for the Irish raider, who made it third time lucky over hurdles at Kilbeggan last month and there may well be better to come from this 5-y-o. Beaumesnil is best of the rest.

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE
Hexham Racecourse employs veterinary surgeons whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse.
In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the Racecourse’s Veterinary team.
Qualified Paramedics and Doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey.
If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving the treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment.

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE Hexham Racecourse employs veterinary surgeons whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the Racecourse’s Veterinary team
