Welcome to Hereford Racecourse for afternoon racing, sponsored by Planet Sport Bet.
As the 2023/2024 Jumps season concluded we congratulated our leading jockey at Hereford which was James Bowen boasting a 30% strike rate and our leading trainer was Jonjo O’Neill who we thank for his support with the most frequent runners too. Top of the owners’leaderboard with 3 wins from 6 runs went to Clive and Charmaine BoultbeeBrooks, with further congratulations to them in training the winners themselves.
With news that we have an additional evening fixture on Friday 24th May, transferred from Worcester Racecourse, we will be offering a special £10 advance ticket for this date to celebrate our final fixture of the season. In addition, we also have a package offer for £15 which will include your ticket, racecard and a drink, but hurry as these will have limited availability. Premier Viewing will also be open, for just £27 (including admission) you will have a private table base for the day, enjoy a welcome drink, and have use of private betting and bar facilities for the raceday, not to mention fantastic balcony views of the action.
We hope you enjoy your afternoon with us today, and hope you can join us on the evening of the 24th May!
Best wishes,
Camilla Esling General Manager

HORSE AND JOCKEY WELFARE AT HEREFORD
Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider. Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital
It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
Selected to win the race
Good chance of being placed By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
Unlikely to win but not totally without hope
Can be given little or no chance.
TheBHA Handicappers allot ratings to horsesoncethey have taken partinasufficientnumber of racestoenable the Handicappers to make anumerical assessmentofeach horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weighttobecarried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participantwithanequal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions
Ahorse rated100, forexample, would be set to carry 1lb more than ahorse rated99(ignoring anypenalties or allowances). Theratings published in the racecardfor handicap racesare the ratings thatwereused to calculate the weighttobecarried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps racesthe rating shown is thatofeach runner at the time thatthe entries forthe race were confirmed.Any subsequently published change to arating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.for novicesteeplechasers, the latest hurdle race rating maybeshown until such time as the Handicappers allot aseparatesteeple chaserating.Such ratings areprefixed by the letter h.

He can regain the winning thread at the expense of Backinaction, who left his hurdling debut form well behind when fourth atTaunton recently and could well take another step forward. Mental Health Awareness Week
13 - 19 May 2024
MOVEMENT
Racing staff and racecourse staff are wearing green ribbons today to show their commitment to raising awareness and ending the stigma surrounding mental health issues.
The theme for Mental Health Awareness Week this year is Movement: Moving more for our mental health. Movement is important for our mental health. But so many of us struggle to move enough. Going for a walk in your neighbourhood or around your workplace, putting on your favourite music and dancing around the living room, chair exercises when you’re watching television – it all counts!
Racing Welfare is committed to providing accessible, tailored mental health and wellbeing support services to all of racing’s workforce.
