THURSDAY 4 SEPTEMBER 2025

THURSDAY 4 SEPTEMBER 2025
On behalf of the team at Haydock Park Racecourse we would like to extend a very warm welcome to you for the first day of our three-day Sprint Cup Celebration. We are set for a fantastic afternoon of racing, with seven competitive flat races taking place today.
I would like to thank all the sponsors of today’s races, OW Bars and The European Breeders Fund It is a privilege to welcome these sponsors today, we are very grateful for your continued support and I would like to wish you all a very memorable day
At the time of writing, we are due to be welcoming Derek O’Connor who has been booked to ride Pralognan in the 2.00pm race. Derek is possibly better known as a topclass amateur rider over jumps, having had 5 Cheltenham Festival winners, alongside being a Grade 1 winning jockey in Ireland. Today’s ride will be Derek’s second flat ride in the UK and I would like to wish him and all the amateur jockeys the very best of luck in the race
Today marks the first day of our Sprint Cup Celebration. We return tomorrow for our Racing Welfare Charity Raceday and round off this fixture with Betfair Sprint Cup Day on Saturday The Betfair Sprint Cup is shaping up to be a memorable renewal with a stacked card of Group One winners currently entered. We hope to welcome you back tomorrow and on Saturday to enjoy these brilliant three days of racing.
Best of luck and we look forward to welcoming you back over the coming days

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards In addition Haydock Park Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital
