Haydock Park Racecard - Saturday 8th August

Page 1

The Jockey Club would like to thank our Group Partners for their support in 2026

WELCOME TO

Hello and a very warm welcome to Haydock Park for Betway Rose of Lancaster Stakes Ladies Day! Following our return to racing yesterday, it is wonderful to once again welcome racegoers for another fantastic afternoon of racing and entertainment. Before we turn to everything the day has in store, I would like to once again express my sincere gratitude to everyone who has helped make our return possible following our break, which was necessary to allow essential repair work to be carried out on the track. To our dedicated grounds team, operations staff, specialist contractors and colleagues across The Jockey Club, thank you for the tremendous amount of work undertaken over the past weeks and months. I would also like to thank our owners, trainers and jockeys for their continued understanding, patience and support throughout this period, and our Annual Members and racegoers for the many kind messages, letters and words of encouragement we have received. Your loyalty has been greatly appreciated by everyone at Haydock Park. On the track, today’s feature is the prestigious Group 3 Betway Rose of Lancaster Stakes, a race with a proud history of attracting high-quality middle-distance performers and one that has been won by some outstanding horses over the years. Alongside a competitive supporting card, we look forward to another excellent afternoon of Flat racing. Off the track, Ladies Day is always one of the most stylish and vibrant occasions of our year. As the Haydock Band welcomes you through our gates, our Style Awards will officially open. If you’re dressed to impress, be sure to visit one of our two Style Pods, located by each entrance, for your opportunity to be crowned Best Dressed. Entries close at 2.00pm, with the winner announced in the Parade Ring at 3.10pm. The successful entrant will receive a fantastic prize package, including a £1,000 holiday voucher and a host of other prizes. The entertainment continues after racing, with DJ Kayla Lou taking to the Be Friendly Stage alongside Jonny Crane on saxophone and Beats by Tom on bongos. Together they will provide a high-energy soundtrack of dance anthems and crowd favourites, ensuring the celebrations continue long after the final race. Finally, I would like to thank Betway for their valued sponsorship of today’s feature race and raceday. We are delighted to welcome them to what promises to be a fantastic day. Thank you for joining us. I hope you enjoy an outstanding afternoon of racing, fashion and entertainment, and wish all owners, trainers and jockeys the very best of luck. Simon Tonge General Manager

DON’T FORGET OUR NEXT MEETING Thursday 3rd September AFTERNOON RACING Thursday’s fixture is a great way to start winding down your week by taking advantage of a slightly quieter day to enjoy the action from different aspects around the course. With an action-packed card on offer, there’s still plenty of excitement to look forward to and as always, a warm Haydock Park welcome.

Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

‘To win’ is for your horse to come first. ‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

THIRD RACE

FALLEN ANGEL was disappointing on her return in the Middleton Stakes but the form that saw her win 3 Group 1s last season would have her levels above some smart opponents here and the percentage call is to side with her again. The unexposed Alobayyah is highly respected after her Royal Ascot success, with the returning Calendar Girl also of interest on the back of a positive juvenile season.

SIXTH RACE

Richard Hannon’s lightly-raced LOST SIGNAL has been freshened up since coming in seventh in the German 2000 Guineas in May and looks to start life in handicaps on a good mark so gets the nod in this wide-open contest. Yorkshire is feared most on the back of a resurgent Doncaster second, although Financer, Leadman and Inspired all need factoring in too.

IF THEY FALL,

WE WON’T

FALL SHORT

British racing has reduced the number of horses that fall by a third and fatalities to 0.2% of 90,000 yearly runners.

HBLB PRIZE MONEY The Horserace Betting Levy Board (HBLB) has allocated £77.1m in prize money for 2026. Since 2000 HBLB has invested £1.5bn in prize money to support the British horseracing industry.

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Haydock Park Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey. If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
