Haydock Park Racecard - Saturday 6th September

WELCOME TO

We are delighted to welcome you to one of the most prestigious fixtures in the flat racing calendar – Betfair Sprint Cup Day.

Today’s highlight, the Betfair Sprint Cup, is Haydock Park’s flagship contest on the Flat and a jewel in the crown of British sprint racing. I would like to thank Betfair for their continued support and sponsorship of today’s meeting

First staged in 1966, the race quickly established itself as a premier test of speed and courage over six furlongs In 1988, it was elevated to Group One status, confirming its place among the elite sprint races in Europe Over the decades, the Sprint Cup has attracted many of the sport’s greatest speedsters – from Be Friendly, the very first winner owned by the legendary commentator Sir Peter O’Sullevan, to modern champions such as Dream Ahead, Harry Angel, and The Tin Man.

Run over Haydock’s straight six furlongs, the race demands blistering pace, tactical nous, and no small measure of bravery. With its rich history and reputation for producing thrilling finishes, the Betfair Sprint Cup continues to be a race where the finest sprinters showcase their abilities. I hope you enjoy what should be a vintage renewal.

Now feels like a good time to look back on what has been a fantastic season to date here at Haydock Park. We have seen a 27% increase in overall heads across this season’s flat fixtures when compared to 2024, with our recent fixture on Friday 8th August seeing our largest crowd since 2017 I would like to thank all racegoers that have chosen to join us so far, it has been our pleasure to welcome you. I would also like to off my gratitude to the team here at the racecourse who have delivered some truly incredible racedays this season

Looking ahead, we have three Flat fixtures remaining this season, Friday 26th & 27th September and Friday 17th October rounding off what has been a memorable season here at Haydock. Our Jump season will then return with the legendary Betfair Chase taking place on Saturday 22nd November Tickets and Hospitality are available for all dates by calling the office on 01942 725963 or by visiting our website at www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/haydock.

Best of luck to all connected with horses today and we wish you a fabulous afternoon here at Haydock Park Racecourse

Betfair Sprint Cup Day is here again and welcome to all our members on the highlight of the flat season here at Haydock Park.

Today, Lazzat bids to supplement his Jubilee Stakes win at Ascot, arguably the best bit of contemporary form in the race. There are many challengers abound The race has been won by some superstars of the sprinting division prior to today with Be Friendly, Green Desert (1986), Danehill (1989), Dayjur (1990), Dream Ahead (2011) and Harry Angel (2017) Even the mighty Lochsong has been beaten in this contest 32 years ago No horse has ever won the Sprint Cup twice.

The supporting card is also festooned with quality: the Betfair Ascendant stakes was won by none other than subsequent King George heroine Pyledriver previously. We also have Group 3 action in the Superior Mile and two exceptionally competitive 14-furlong handicaps for your enjoyment.

We also have the Be Friendly Handicap The race is named after the inaugural winner of the Sprint Cup, back when it was run in November Richard Fahey actually trained his first winner in this race thirty-four years ago

There is a gallimaufry of amenities at your disposal today: two viewing boxes are available high up in the County Stand which give a wonderful vista of the racecourse, as well as your exclusive seating area and designated zone within the Grandstand I am delighted to tell you that work is already underway in formulating the Annual Badgeholder package for 2026 and details will follow in due course.

Haydock Park in the latter half of the year is always an exciting place to be We race again in just 20 days’ time, and it is 11 weeks until our National Hunt highlight of the year, the Betfair Chase

I wish you all an enjoyable and successful afternoon’s racing

PLAY SMARTER

An interesting blend of proven Group performers and up-and-comers. ZEUS OLYMPIOS is very much in the latter category and while this assignment on just his third starts demands a lot more, he maywell be up to the task. Make Me King and Ice Max just about set the standard on their best form.

A couple of smart 2-y-os clash in the form of BOW ECHO and Publish. The latter is held in high regard and drying ground is presumably in his favour tackling 1m for the first time but the former created such a fine impression on debut that he is marginally preferred. Midnight Tango is slightly more exposed but promises to stay 1m and is a danger to the pair in receipt of 5lb

2024: MONTASSIB 6 9 5 Cieren Fallon 25-1 (William Haggas) 16 ran

Blinkers worn by No 8. Sheepskin Cheek Pieces worn by No 3, 10, 14.

Stewards Note:

DILIGENT HARRY: Following its run on 19/7/2025 it was reported that the horse hung right-handed.

FLORAOF BERMUDA: Following its run on 12/7/2025 it was reported that the horse reared and was slowly away SAYIDAH DARIYAN: Following its run on 22/8/2025 it was reported that the horse became restless in the stalls.

Probable S.P’s: 5-2 Lazzat (FR), 8-1 Kind of Blue (GB), 17-2 Time For Sandals (IRE), 10-1 No Half Measures (GB), 12-1 Sky Majesty (IRE), 14-1 Sayidah Dariyan (IRE), 16-1 Flora ofBermuda (IRE), 18-1 Inisherin (GB), 22-1 Beauvatier(FR), Big Mojo (IRE), 40-1 James’s Delight (IRE), My Mate Alfie (IRE), Rage of Bamby (IRE), 66-1 Ain’t Nobody (IRE), 100-1 Annaf (IRE), Diligent Harry (GB), Run To Freedom (GB)

On the face of it SKY MAJESTY has a bit to find with some of these but the manner of her recent victory in Ireland suggested that she is still improving. The Blue Point filly isversatile ground-wise and, from a value standpoint, is an appealing alternative to French raider Lazzat, who is the one to beat based on form such as his RoyalAscot success inJune.Time ForSandals also bagged a Group 1 at the Royal meeting and is greatly respected, while Kind of Blue is another with strong claims.

This is likely to be fast and furious and JER BATT, who went close in this race 12 months ago, is taken to deliver a telling late blow. The 5-y-o is on a good mark and his latest effort at Yarmouth was solid. If ready to roll on this belated seasonal reappearance Blue Storm could also play a part in the finish, while Luna A Inbhir Nis is enjoying a tremendous campaign and, on the back of a cracking effort in a valuable York handicap, she looks set for another leading role.

PLAY SMARTER

Judged on his latest second at Kempton AWAR EAGLE is still going the right way and a 2lb nudge for that effort looks fair, particularly in light of the winner’s subsequent display in a valuable handicap at the York Ebor meeting. He gets the nod ahead of fellow 3-y-os Mezcala and Tilted Kilt, while Mysteryofthesands could be the pick of the older brigade.

Stewards Note:

PRESENTTIMES: Following its run on 17/4/2025 it was reported that the horse became unbalanced in the dip

Probable S.P’s: 5-1 Dixieland Blues (GB), 13-2 Leadenhall (GB), 15-2 Duke’s Command (GB), 8-1 Present Times (GB), 17-2 Two B Tanned (GB), 9-1 Comanche Warrior (IRE), 12-1 Sea Founder (GB), Tele Red (GB), 14-1 On The River (GB), Magellan Cloud (GB)

A wide open finale but DUKE’S COMMAND shaped well when sixth in a big-field York handicap lasttime and can bag a second success forDavid O’Meara here offa 1lb lowermark.

Leadenhall wasn’t seen to ideal effect when fourth at Ripon recently and this C&D scorer heads the list of dangers, atlhough the handily-weighted duo Tele Red and On The River can both have a say too. Two B Tanned and Magellan Cloud complete the shortlist.

The Horserace Betting Levy Board prize fund schemes provide for the estimated inclusion of £687,994 in ratecard and incremental prize money at this racecourse from 23rd June to 14th September 2025.
