WELCOME TO

Welcome to Haydock Park for the William Hill Grand National Trial Day.

It is a great pleasure to welcome you to Haydock Park for William Hill Grand National Trial Day, a fixture that combines rich racing heritage with one of the most searching tests of stamina in the Jump Racing calendar

Taking place on Valentine’s Day, today’s meeting offers a perfect excuse to share an afternoon of top-class racing with friends, family, or loved ones, and we are delighted you have chosen to spend the day with us here at Haydock Park

The William Hill Grand National Trial is a race steeped in history and prestige, with a roll of honour that includes some of the sport’s most celebrated staying chasers Past winners such as Red Rum, Party Politics, Master Oats and Bristol De Mai underline the importance of this contest, and today’s renewal once again promises a compelling spectacle

This season’s race also forms part of the ‘William Hill Half A Mill’ bonus, which offers a £500,000 prize to the connections of any horse that can win one of three designated trials during the 2025/26 season the Becher Chase at Aintree, the Classic Chase at Warwick, or today’s Grand National Trial and then go on to claim victory in the 2026 Randox Grand National on Saturday 11th April. The bonus adds an extra layer of intrigue to an already fascinating contest

As always, our team across the racecourse has worked hard to deliver a warm and enjoyable raceday experience, with excellent food and drink options, welcoming hospitality, and raceday staff on hand throughout the course.

Looking ahead, we look forward to welcoming you back for our next fixture on Thursday 5th March, perfectly timed in the build-up to the Cheltenham Festival It promises to be an exciting afternoon of racing and an ideal opportunity to enjoy the sport ahead of one of the biggest weeks in the National Hunt season

I would like to thank William Hill and our other sponsors on the card, QED Scaffolding, ZYN, Albert Bartlett, Pertemps Network and the friends and family of Richard Howard for their valued support of this prestigious raceday, and to thank you for your continued support of Haydock Park

Welcome to all our Annual Members on William Hill National Trial Day.

The race’s alumni read like a roll call of National Hunt nobility Red Rum, that paragon of equine immortality, used Haydock as a preparatory crucible. Party Politics, a horse of such monumental stamina that he seemed to draw energy from the very mud itself, likewise passed through this Lancastrian baptism before claiming Aintree’s crown. Their triumphs imbued the Trial with an aura of prophetic significance: win here, and destiny may yet beckon.

The chief supporting race is The Rendlesham Hurdle. Here, beneath skies of a peculiarly British greyness—skies that appear to have been painted by a melancholic watercolourist withafondnessfordrizzle—thestayinghurdlers of the realm assemble to demonstrate their fortitude, their decorum, and their unwavering commitment to forward propulsion A stellar field awaits today.

It’s a pleasure to see so many Haydock Park runnersofthepastatnextmonth’sCheltenham Festival The Jukebox Man and Grey Dawning head to Gloucestershire with claims in the Gold Cup, whilst Old Park Star heads the market for the Supreme

Do keep your eyes peeled for exclusive Members activities in the coming weeks and please make use of your exclusive amenities to enhance your racegoing experience. I hope you have an enjoyable and successful days racing.

PLAY SMARTER

It was hardly a strong field KABRAL DU MATHAN dispatched in the Relkeel but he could easily have won by a good bit further had his rider desired and is very much the one to beat with the step up to 3m likely to be within range. French Ship wasn’t seen to best effect in the Lanzarote at Kempton on his most recent outing and remains open to improvement, with Lud’or another interesting contender up in grade.

PLAY SMARTER

DEAFENING SILENCE bumped into a thrown-in rival on return and shaped reallywell when third in the Welsh National last time, arguably just paying the price late for pressing on with the Gold Cup-bound Haiti Couleurs. He can gain a deserved first win of the season here, though Myretown remains potentiallyverywelltreated ifhis jumping holds uptryingthis marathontrip forthe firsttime. Holokea is steadily progressive and can make his presence felt in this higher grade.

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards In addition Haydock Park Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital
