Haydock Park Racecard - Friday 18th July

FRIDAY 18 JULY 2025

WELCOME TO

The team at Haydock Park Racecourse are delighted to welcome you our summer afternoon raceday on what promises to be a fantastic day’s racing.

I would like to give a warm welcome to the sponsors of today’s races –Rowland Homes, Lancashire DAF and Truly Independent Financial Advisers

We have a brilliant line-up of racing this afternoon, consisting of seven competitive contests. Today marks our final midweek meeting in July – but we have plenty more to come throughout the rest of the summer season Highlights in August include Friday 8th August with music from Becky Hill following racing, our Betfred Rose of Lancaster Ladies Day on Saturday 9th August and our Sky Bet Sunday Series Family Day on Sunday 10th August. This meeting promises to be an incredible weekend of racing and we look forward to seeing you there!

Moving into September, we are incredibly excited about the Group One Betfair Sprint Cup returning on Saturday 6th September. Early entries have recently closed with five French entries and six Irish entries showcasing the appeal the race has and the undoubted quality it will attract. Tickets and hospitality are still available for the fixture from our website or by calling the racecourse office

In recent weeks, I have been incredibly impressed with the racing on the course, with some very competitive races and some exhilarating finishes. Recently, the David O’Meara-trained Estrange won the Group Two bet365 Lancashire Oaks and Plage de Havre won the bet365 Old Newton Cup for Andrew Balding, both of which were winners that will live long in the memory and I would like to extend my congratulations to all recent winning connections.

As you will see by the track, our grounds team have been working tirelessly to produce a fantastic surface in what has been a challenging climate. I would like to thank them for their hard work along with the office team who have done a phenomenal job given the volume of events we have had recently I am forever grateful for their hard work and endeavours.

Best of luck to all connected with horses today and we wish you a fabulous afternoon here at Haydock Park Racecourse

DON’T FORGET OUR NEXT MEETING

Saturday 19th July

SUMMER LAWN SESSIONS

Join us tomorrow for a spectacular summer evening at Haydock Park as we bring you our Summer Lawn Sessions, the perfect fusion of thrilling horse racing and feel-good live music. Nathan Ellis will take to the decks with a live DJ set throughout the evening, bringing the lawn to life with feel-good anthems, house beats, and sun-soaked sounds.

The Racing Excellence Haydock Park Apprentice Training Series

The Racing Excellence Haydock Park Apprentice Training Series is designed to assist in the continued education of inexperienced jockeys - it is the next step on from the Hands and Heels Series.

The special conditions set out below apply to all races in the 2025 Apprentice Training series

• All races will be for Apprentices who have ridden not more than 20 winners.

• Every rider must carry a whip. Whips can be waved and used in the backhand position only.

• Prior to the race the Jockey Coach will brief riders on the conditions of the race

• All riders must attend a mandatory course walk with the Jockey Coach and/ or a senior jockey 90 minutes before the race

• After the race, the rider of every horse must report to the Stewards’ room where they will be talked through the race by the Jockey Coach. The Jockey Coach may also contact riders after the race meeting to further advise them on their riding.

• The British Horseracing Authority are generously providing a prize to the winner of the series; the winner will be the rider who accumulates the most points in the series.

• The points table for the series can be viewed on the Jockey Training and Development website https://jockeytraining.co.uk/racing-excellence/

Look out for the charity Racing to School today; you shouldn’t miss them as they will be leading a group of local pupils and their teachers through every corner of the racecourse for an action-packed day of fun challenges and discovery The charity works nationwide with over 250 schools, and this year will reach around 16,000 young people – at UK racecourses, trainers’yards and studs.

They deliver free, outdoor activity days to support the learning and to boost the self-confidence of children aged nine and above. Racing to School uses racing venues as unique, fast-moving classrooms full of opportunities to practise and improve subjects like maths, literacy and problem-solving.

The charity is only able to support young people’s education through the kind donations it receives. Please scan this QR code to donate, if you can.

VETS SCREEN POLICY

We have agreed with our vets that the screen should be erected, whenever a horse requires veterinary treatment on the course. This does not reflect the severity of an injury, but does help to provide a calm environment, in which the vet is better able to treat the horse.

Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse.

Atrappy handicap and it may payto side with lightly-raced 4-y-o RUSSIAN CRESCENDO who had won 2 of her first 3 starts prior to looking rusty on reappearance at Southwell in April. She’s worth another chance following a break and is preferred to Paggane who shaped with encouragement on stable debut and could have more to offer upped in trip under a valuable claiming jockey, while Pique’ could be in the mix if recapturing last season’s form, with the step back up in trip set to suit.

HEADMASTER bumped into a useful prospect on debut and improved when a close second at Windsor, pulling clear of the rest. He can get off the mark at the third time of asking ahead of Grey Jaguar who showed more than enough to work with on debut and could well improve, while Tokyo Joe wasn’t asked for everything on the all-weather last time and can be competitive back on turf The well-bred Ertijaaj looks an interesting newcomer forthe RogerVarian team and is one to note for support.

Stewards Note:

OSCAR’S SISTER: Following its run on 4/7/2025 it was reported that the jockey’s saddle slipped.

Probable S.P’s: 9-2 Pearly Squirrel (IRE), 13-2 Insuspense (GB), 7-1 White Umbrella (GB), 8-1 Sharon Curly (IRE), 10-1 Tsarinas Song (GB), Ironist (IRE), 14-1 Oscar’s Sister (IRE), Tropical Heat (GB), 16-1 Dream Illusion (GB), 18-1 Cypriot Diaspora (GB), 20-1 Ornately (GB), 66-1 Sangara (IRE)

INSUSPENSE caught the eye travelling as well as any when fourth on handicap debut at Doncaster, a performance that can be marked up given she had to challenge away from the main action. Now on better terms, she may be able to reverse the form with Pearly Squirrel, who should go well again, along with Sharon Curly who was a narrowly defeated runner-up that day.

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards In addition Haydock Park Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital
