A very warm welcome to our Annual Members on Rose of Lancaster Stakes Day, and what a wonderful day it promises to be

Today is Ladies Day, and it will be so nice to see our lady members adorned in their finest attire Should any of our Lady Members heels begin to throb, then a reserved seating area available for all members is available within The County Enclosure

Following an excellent performance to whet the appetite for today from Earth Wind and Fire last night, The Betfred Rose of Lancaster Stakes takes centre stage today. Two years ago Anmaat was victorious in the contest and subsequently he won of The Prix d’Ispahan at Longchamp, a Group 1 contest. Today’s renewal looks a fascinating affair.

Four-time champion trainer Major Dick Hern is also remembered today in the 4:45 race. Dick won every Classic Race at least twice, taking the St Leger a remarkable six times. He also won the Sprint Cup twice, latterly with the remarkable Dayjur, a sprinter whose sight was to behold back in 1990 A trainer of such recognisable stars as Brigadier Gerard, Nashwan, Bustino, Troy and Dunfermline, he is much missed after his death twenty-two years ago.

We have an array of reciprocals for you to attend before our next meeting. Most popular is likely to be Ripon on Bank Holiday Monday on 27th August Yorkshire’s Garden Racecourse is an idyllic location on a sunny afternoon

Next up here we have Betfair Sprint Cup Day, precluded by Thursday and Friday racing to Haydock’s only Group 1.

Catherine Smith has been a great friend to so many members over the last decade. She was single-handily putting up with me for most of it on the telephone and has become a personal friend Today is her last day at Haydock Park. Catherine, thank you, I will miss you enormously.

I look forward to seeing you all today and I wish you an enjoyable and successful days racing.

VETS SCREEN POLICY

We have agreed with our vets that the screen should be erected, whenever a horse requires veterinary treatment on the course. This does not reflect the severity of an injury, but does help to provide a calm environment, in which the vet is better able to treat the horse.

Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse.

Loveable Rogue (IRE), 16-1 Salik (IRE)

AMANCIO is a most consistent sort who is proven at the trip, so he appeals as the most solid option. Yaajooz made the most of a good opportunity at Thirsk last time and ought to be competitive back in a handicap for his new yard providing he gets home over this longer distance, with Expected Arrival another to consider TIMEFORM PREDICTION: 1.AMANCIO 2.YAAJOOZ

PLAY SMARTER

The vote goes to BURDETT, who didn’t do much wrong when third in a 16-runner affair at Ascot last month and this 3-y-o could still be on a good mark. Boardman has been given a chance by the handicapper and, judged on recent efforts, he appears to be coming back to the boil, while Finn’s Charm is also of strong interest back in calmer waters David O’Meara is likelyto findthe keyto French-import Mirskybefore long and he is anotherforthe shortlist.

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards In addition Haydock Park Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital
